Laptop locking up

Hi,

I'm being driven mad by a locking up problem on a Fujitsu XP home laptop.

After about 5 minutes use it locks up with no HDD activity BUT the cursor is still moving around the screen. ctrl-alt-delete doesn't work and sometimes you get that 'buffer full' beeping if you move the cursor.

 

I don't think it's temperature as Everest shows it to be operating at 40 deg C. Nevertheless, I have cleaned the heatsinks and fan.

 

I can't get it to lock up in safe mode, so I disabled all the start up stuff and services in msconfig. It still locks up.

 

Any ideas what I can try next?
