KenB Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS says press f8 for boot menu F8 should bring up the Advanced Boot Options - do you have an Operating System installed ? If you have just placed an old hard drive in the case with a new motherboard the system will not boot. Can you access the BIOS ? hunter21 Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 hi and thanks hi no i cant access the bios at all yes there is os on hdd win 7 but its the same if i unplugged it new mobo , psu, cpu i3, ram is ok tryed 5 different ones no joy thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hi, can I ask are you plugging the keyboard into a PS/2 port, not a USB one? At this point a USB port cannot work until BIOS is set up to accept USB input, providing that is an option in the first place. If you are using a PS/2 port ignore the above. Secondly, Ken is correct, although it may actually be necessary to have the hard drive connected once you have got into the BIOS, the original OS Windows 7 will refuse to boot as it is seeing an entirely new environment. If it had been XP, and providing a disk was available a repair could have been carried out to get the XP to run, however with Windows 7 you will need to do a fresh install, which will need a full Windows 7 disk any way. hunter21 Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 hi nev yes im useing a ps2 keyboard hdd as win 7 on tryed putting a win7 disc in with no joy the dvd drive is a sata connection, thought it was the mobo so i sent that back had a new one sent but same thing, cpu is new i3. if i press tab and the one above at same time i get the post screen but only cpu, and dram timing shown but it just seems to freeze at the point supplyer of the mobo said the mobo was tested with xp thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Hi, OK somehow or another we have to get into the BIOS, can't get further till that is sorted out and it is made to boot from the disk drive anyway. Unfortunately there is no standard key to press for all the different makes of motherboards and the BIOS system installed on them. The right key to press can be any one of many so providing you have an idea at least of which BIOS is fitted or installed, have a look at this page and you may find which key will get you into the BIOS. It may even be a trial and error till you get the right one, so best of luck. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_pc.htm Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? hunter21 Posted December 24, 2012 Author Posted December 24, 2012 hi i have tryed different ways but still no joy just freezes on that screen had it comes up entering setup and thats all it does i left for a hour or so but same ? Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Hi, just to confirm, you did say you have had the motherboard out of the case and tried with everything except power connected, then moved on from there, even a new board sent. It is very confusing as it should do more than what you are getting, have you checked that all power connections are on and in the correct places? did the motherboard come with a drivers disk and have you tried running that? You would need the hard drive connected and fully reformatted first I think for that. Otherwise I am stuck. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Synapse Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Hi, Reading this and your other thread, I'd say there is something inherently wrong with your hardware setup. Forget Windows for now, no BIOS access means absolutely no Windows, a point for later, is that we need to understand the running of the Windows install on your new board. So, board is MS-7658, it looks like an OEM board, ie built my MSI for a specific manufacturer, in this case Medion. I am wondering why you chose this one rather than a standard retail board. Also, can you let us know if you have a manual for it, if you do, is it available online as I am struggling to find it. What memory have you installed, could do with the part number and also what CPU have you installed again could do with the part number. One of these components, or your PSU is giving a problem either through fault or incompatibility IMO. Quote

Synapse Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I am beginning to think that this isn't fixable. You have a Medion branded board, and reading around the web, people mostly remove this board if they want to upgrade/ change components to increase performance. Also, one or two people think the BIOS may be locked down, as one post I read said most of the standard options are greyed out. Following on from that, the CPU you have, although looking at the specs it should work, may not due to BIOS being locked in some way. In my last post I was considering there may be something fundamentally wrong, and I have come to the conclusion that the board should run with the CPU supplied by Medion only. It's not something I have come across with desktop boards, but if the memory checks out, and the PSU is ok, and you can't get to the BIOS, there is no other conclusion to draw. Sorry, but the best thing to do is buy a standard board, even one based on the same chipset from MSI will suffice, as long as it is a retail board. Quote
hunter21 Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 hi ok will keep playing with it thanks Quote
