KenB Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS I am not a gamer - so advice will be limited to what I know. You only have on-board graphics at the moment ....so you are right - you will need a Video Card upgrade if you want to play games. I looked up the system specs for GTA4. A reasonable ( better than minimum ) Video Card suggested was GeForce 8600 GTS with 512mb on-board memory. This would need at least 350 Watt PSU. Changing the CPU would probably not give you much of a boost. Your motherboard socket is 775 which means that you can only use 775 compatible CPUs. (a little dated now) From your data sheets - it looks like the max RAM supported by the m/board is 2GB. It also looks as if you have 2 x 1GB modules already ......so you cannot add more RAM. It would help if you could post the make and model number of your computer as I couldn't get a specific motherboard / case for you. If your case is non-standard then it may not even be possible to upgrade the PSU to accommodate a new Video Card. KenB Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 so u mean my processor is okay I mean that you cannot put a modern i5 or i7 processor in your motherboard as the socket types are different ( pin configuration ). if i remove the 2x 1 gb ram and add 2x 2gp ram will it work .. No. Your motherboard ( according to the specs below ) can only support a maximun of 2 GB. ( You have an old system ) system specs click here The only things you can do to improve your gaming ability ( and the lack of RAM and CPU speed will limit this ) is to add a Video Card as I said before. Some games specify a minimum system RAM - your 2GB will limit ( or slow down ) the games you can play. Your motherboard is a mico-ATX ( much smaller than standard ) This may limit your choice of Video Card to low-profile - depending on the space inside the case. From the specs I found - the PSU is either 220 or 280 Watts. This is too small to run a Video Card. The size of PSU ( Watts) needs to be matched to the Card that you select. I cannot see, at the moment, if the PSU is standard ATX or not. If you can provide some information on that from the label on the PSU itself this would help. To put this bluntly - your system was never designed for modern games and it is so old you are going to be limited as to what you can do to improve "gaming" on it. You will never be able to cope with high-end games due to the motherboard limitations. freaky Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 well thanks since i got all the other information , about processor and ram and also the CPU the power supply i have a 220watt power supply a and i have found a low profile graphics card that required on 75 watt power supply that mean i can run that card all i need to know is that will that graphics card fit in the motherboard/the slots here is the card i want to buy : http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGT430DI1GD3LP/#specifications and here is the motherboard picture : http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8412/dsc0031rl.jpg thanks please reply soon !

You will never be able to cope with high-end games due to the motherboard limitations. I agree completely with KenB. Your system will not be able to handle recent, or to date games. If your looking to buy a new PC for gaming, you are looking at around £500 upwards, the more you spend, the better and longer your system will stay "up to par" with recent gaming. Sorry for the bad news. freaky Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 well i know my pc sucks for recent games but if i can have that graphics card then i can play low-end games without lag because the current graphics card i have sucks really hard .. please just tell me if the graphics card is pci express x16 or what !
KenB Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 i have found a low profile graphics card that required on 75 watt power supply I think you are confusing the card's specific power requirements with the overall system power requirements. up to 75W no additional PCIe power required This refers to the card's power requirements. This needs to be added to what you have already so you are probably looking at 300 - 350 Watts PSU. please just tell me if the graphics card is pci express x16 or what ! That card is a PCIe x 16 card. It looks like you have a PCIe slot - the long brown one ( can't see the end of it ). You would need to re-route the wires. We still have no information to say if your PSU is a standard ATX one - this will need to be changed whatever card you buy. freaky Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) got it wrong lol u were talking about the graphics card u were saying about this :up to 75W no additional PCIe power required This refers to the card's power requirements. This needs to be added to what you have already so you are probably looking at 300 - 350 Watts PSU. but as far as i know i dont need a 300-350 watt power supply for it because of the video in youtube the computer experts say you dont need any addictional power supply to run this card .. or i got you wrong just want to make sure that are you saying that i need 300-350 watt power supply to run this graphics card ! RandyL Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 My thoughts on this is it's a waste of money. Windows 8 minimum requirements are; RAM 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit) Now any time Microsoft lists the minimums it's a safe bet you will need to double it just for ordinary computing. So even if you have a 32 bit system your maxed out in my opinion. This leaves little or no RAM for even ordinary gaming. And you can't add RAM. This is your biggest hurdle. That card is best suited for home theater not gaming. You will need an upgraded PSU. Your CPU is OK but not great so that will affect things too. Best bet; New MOBO. New CPU to go with that MOBO. New RAM to go with that MOBO. Better Video card. Bigger PSU. I almost forgot. With a new MOBO you will need to reinstall Windows. If all you have are recovery disks then you will need to purchase the full Windows 8 too. We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. RandyL Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Buy a new computer is my point. Even in China you can't get the components to do what you want with this system without a total rebuild. The advice given so far by everyone says give it up. The case, fans and optical drives are the the only things you can salvage so what is the point in trying to upgrade components? Write it off and buy a new computer. Or do this: New MOBO. New CPU to go with that MOBO. New RAM to go with that MOBO. Better Video card. Bigger PSU. As I said before. If you are not willing to do all of the above then we can not help. You can not rebuild a cheap computer for a few dollars. Case closed. We are all members helping other members. freaky Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 And I can you also give me the mobo size that would fit it to my pc And some recommended mobos please Thanks
Vr5fx Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 We are trying to help. I am a gamer, and I am in agreement to what Randy and Ken are saying. A motherboard for gaming would probably mean a new PC case. Even if you could get a motherboard to fit, you couldn't get a decent graphics card that is half size and low profile. Airflow would be a problem in your current case and may cause more harm than good. I'm going to tell you the size of my PC case. Depth 500mm Width 215mm Height 480mm It's big, doesn't even fit in my desk, it houses 6 120mm fans, 7 including the one in the power supply. This is a link to an AVERAGE gaming PC. It will play recent games on at least medium to high. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-Z77-I5-3450-Windows-7-Gaming-PC-1tb-8gb-1600mhz-GTX-660-2gb-Apollo-/150951097891?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item232562f623 I bought my original PC from these peeps so I do recommend them. -Vr AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png

KenB Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Hi Sorry for the late reply - I have been away for a few days. you dont need any addictional power supply to run this card .. Let me explain this comment. Some Video Cards need a power connection direct to the card in the form of a 6 pin PCIe power connection. When it is suggested that the card does not need any additional power it is this 6 pin connection that is being referred to. By adding a Video Card to your system it takes power to run it. This, obviously, is in addition to the existing system requirements that are provided by the 220 Watts - hence my estimate of 300 - 350 Watts. You will net be able to run this card with your present 220 Watt PSU. Lenovo - 220 Watt PSU. Is this your PSU ? If it is it is not a standard ATX. A standard ATX unit looks like this: They are not compatible. I doubt that you will find a 350 Watt replacement for your present PSU.
