slab288 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi there, Can anyone confirm that the following RAM description will be Ok for my HP G56-105SA laptop: - Module Size: 8GB kit (2 x 4GB) 204-pin SODIMM Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600 Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 , CL=9 , Unbuffered , NON-ECC , DDR3-1333 , 1.5V , 512Meg x 64 Suitable for Laptops supporting DDR3 1333MHz 204 PIN SODIMM. Make sure, your machine supports 4GB ram into slot. Thanks in advance slab288 Quote
KenB Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi To confirm run the scanner from Crucial click here If your Operating System is 32 bit the most it will support is 4 GB - even if the motherboard supports 8 GB Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! slab288 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Thanks Ken, the OS is 64bit and after running the scan the things I don't see mentioned are: - CL=9, Unbuffered & NON-ECC not sure what they mean. slab288 Quote
KenB Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi CL9 = CAS Latency It is to do with the RAM timing. In other words it is the delay that takes place between the memory controller's instructions and the data being present on the RAM output. In general - the lower this value the faster the RAM functions. Unbuffered memory is a little less stable than memory that is buffered. Most home systems use unbuffered as it is cheaper. Basically there is an extra stage on the memory module. Non-ECC - this again is generally used for home PCs. ECC (error correcting code ) memory is often referred to as Server Memory. It is more stable ( but slightly slower ) ECC memory is generally more expensive too. ============ We could do with your motherboard details to check out the supported RAM - I would have thought Crucial would have identified that. Could you provide a link to the crucial scan details ? You could try Speccy from here: click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
slab288 Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Hopefully this is the link to the Crucial scan: - http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=BE7CCDBE31D926C3 It doesn't appear to mention anything about the motherboard. slab288 Quote

Have just run a crucial scan on my Win7 system and the Motherboard is identified: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/crucial.png Your N68-GS3 UCC System Specs Quote Member of:UNITE
Plastic Nev Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi, Yes that is your Crucial scan OK, and you are right, for some reason they say they identified your motherboard, but don't tell us what they found. Not to worry, download and install Speccy as per Kens link, once installed and opened it will tell you, and hopefully us, the motherboard you have and model number, plus a lot of other useful details should they ever be needed. Plastic Nev Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Hi, now you see how useful Speccy is for information should it ever be needed again! However the HP motherboard number, although Hewlett Packard are a bit like trying to get blood out of a stone directly from them information wise, I did find other information suggesting the maximum RAM the motherboard will take is 8GB. The crucial scan shows that as well as the all important 1604, which until Starbuck mentioned it, I hadn't realised that number was the motherboard model. So, as I can see you have one 4 GB in one slot with the other slot free, I suggest another 4GB DDR3 stick as recommended by Crucial should see you OK. Nev. slab288 Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 Thanks Nev, Just a quicky.........will it be Ok to fit another 4gb or is it advisible to fit a matched pair and bin the one fitted at the moment? Thanks again slab288 Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Hi, if you go back to that Crucial page and click the "Show all compatible computer memory" you will see a listing of both matched pairs or just one 4GB that is close enough to be compatible and work well, check prices, then see if you can find the same elsewhere but cheaper. Obviously a full matched pair will work, but if one single to add to existing will also work as Crucial say it should, then why pay more? Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems?
