DizzyPixels Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Not sure if this is the right category and I'm completely new so apologies. A while ago I blocked a website using the hosts file and I came to unblock it and deleted the line like all the websites told me to do and reset my laptop. I have now tried to access that website and it still isn't letting me. Any advice? Thanks Quote
KenB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS Could you possibly give us a link to the website ? We may be able to advise better if we knew what we are dealing with :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Could you please take another look at the Hosts file and let me know what is there please ? Also - Start > Control Panel > Internet Options Delete Cookies. You will need to log-in again with log-in details to sites like this that Windows may hold your login details for. ( if that makes sense ??? :) ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
DizzyPixels Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 All cache deleted. Hosts looks like this: # Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 localhost Quote
KenB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hi Looking at your Hosts file you have an entry 127.0.0.1 localhost. the very last line. # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. This basically suggests that the hosts file is not used by default. 127.0.0.1 is the local host address and is used to establish an IP connection This is a typical Hosts file for Win7 # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost Suggest that you put a # in front of 127.0.0.1 localhost - this will then be ignored. OK to finish. Check the Hosts again to see if the changes have been made then try the website again. I assume that this was a hang-over from blocking the site in the first place? If you are still having problems .......Try adding 94.127.78.91 www.habbo.com to the Hosts just under 127.0.0.1 localhost .......[ space after 78.92 ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Hi Sorry .... Can you confirm please ? Did you add this to your Hosts file ? 94.127.78.91 www.habbo.com ......................[there is a space after 94.127.78.91] When you type .... www.habbo.com into the address bar { where the http\\ is } what exactly happens ? Actually you can click on the link to habbo.com in the line above :) Do you get any messages ? Which browser are you using ? Do you have a different one to try ?
