HELPREQUIRED Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) Not too sure if i'm in the right place for this but i recently burnt a DVD on my PC of videos that i have. I tried to make another copy for my husband and now Windows DVD Maker will not burn the disc. I keep getting a message box popping up saying:"Cannot Create The DVD. One or more of the files that were added in DVD Maker could not be decoded correctly. Verify that you have decoding software on your computer that can decode the different files, and then try again." Nothing has changed though, it is the same videos and it worked fine last time  Please can you help? Thanks. Edit:The system I am using is Vista. RandyL Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 It could be a corrupted file. I've run across that before. Most computers that have DVD burners will also have a basic version of burning software. For instance Nero. Roxio or CyberLink. With these you can do a DVD to DVD copy from the DVD you already made. Can you check your programs please? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. HELPREQUIRED Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 its still saying closing track its taken over 11 hours so far :( Quote
KenB Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 its taken over 11 hours so far Not good. How long has it been "closing" for? This process should only take a minute or so. Which Anti Virus are you using? Can you dis-able it when trying to burn a CD and see if that makes a difference. HELPREQUIRED Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Just tried BurnAware again and now i'm getting an error message, so i tried windows dvd maker again and now that is saying 'DVD Burner not found. A DVD Burner was not found, make sure a DVD Burner is connected and installed, and then try again.' :'( Quote
KenB Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 You have your OS listed as "Starter" Is this Vista starter ? If so - where did you get it ? ( It was introduced to developing countries as a cheaper option ...........with limitations ) Your IP Address puts you in Germany. Nothing has changed though, it is the same videos and it worked fine last time Are the disks you are using exactly the same ? How long between trying to burn the disks ? One or more of the files that were added in DVD Maker could not be decoded correctly What is the file extension of the videos you are trying to burn ? ( after the file name .mpg / .wmv ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
HELPREQUIRED Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Its vista home premium, this is my PC, that is listed as starter as i had problems with my laptop before. We've had this 5 years and there has never really been a problem other than slow. I am in Germany, my husband is posted out here with forces. Yep same make DVD's, I did mine about 2 weeks ago. There are 13 short movies all together and i made sure i didn't over fill the DVD. When i did these last ones again i did 1, 2, 3 and 4 on 1 disc, that worked, then tried to do 5, 6 and 7 and i got the decoding message. I tried 1, 2, 3, and 4 again and got the same message with them. They are all avi files. I restarted my pc and the DVD burner is now found but i'm just getting the decoding message again. Thanks for your help, I am clueless! Quote
KenB Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Thanks for confirming your OS :) I suggest that you try burning some photos and see if the software works with this format. (photos are usually .jpg ) Can you try this please? If it works with this - then it is the file type it cannot cope with. its microsoft security essentials, i'm not too sure how to turn it off Sorry - I missed this. Open MSE[click on the green icon bottom right of screen ] > click Settings and under real-time protection > uncheck the option Turn ON real-time protection If you try this - don't forget to turn real time protection on again :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Quote
HELPREQUIRED Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 I tried to do photos and that worked so i tried doing just 6 and 7 and that worked so for some obscure reason video 5 isn't wanting to be burnt to disc Quote
RandyL Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 It sounds like you are trying to make another video disk from the original files. What I suggested was to use the disk you made and create a copy. Since you used Moviemaker I'm going to assume that you only saved and burned the original disk as a WMV file format since that is what Moviemaker does. With the disk in go to Computer. Right click your disk drive and select Open. Right click the file on the original disk you made and select properties to verify the file type. If it is WMV (Windows Media Audio/Video file) you can copy it to your hard drive then use burning software to make a new disk with the WMV file. BurnAware free does not support direct disk copy except as an ISO file. Neither does Windows but with this method you can create a copy of the original disk you made. With Windows right click the WMV file you copied to your computer and select Send to then select your CD/DVD drive. If you click your start orb then click All Programs you may find a basic version of burning software like Nero, Roxio or CyberLink. These may support direct disk copy. In addition basic versions of burning software like Nero, Roxio or CyberLink or even the Windows DVD Maker can create DVD's that will play in standard DVD players.
