I am having problems with my other PC.

 

Its a long story but suffice it to say I am missing "PCI Simple Communication controller" which I believe is something to do with the Ethernet card I fitted, I did try to install the software supplied.So everytime I boot up I get a warning about the New hardware found and how its not working.

I thought I could find the PCI missing bit on my XP disk, which does not belong to the PC concerned, and upgraded it from XP home to XP Proffesional.

 

Now everything is in slow motion.....I can connect to the internet using the USB but not with the Ethernet card.

 

We use the PC in the shop and wanted to upgrade it to access the web for a customer service, now it is virtually Knackered.

 

I bet this one beats you ?

But hope it is solvable.....cause a new Pc is out of the question at the moment

No, sounds like we can get it going for you. Just maybe need to get a bit more information first.

 

1. What computer brand. MFG and MODEL ?

2. What operating system are you running ?

3. Approximately how old is the computer ?

4. Are you using ADSL or Cable modem or phone dialup modem?

5. Do you have the original Operating System installation CD?

 

When you look in the device manager do you see one or more devices with a YELLOW or RED indicator ?

Hello I hope I have the information you wanted.

 

The machine has a QTech flash on the front, Belarc tells me it is a VIA Technologies VT 8601.

It had XP Home loaded when I got it with no disks.

Its age is questionable but about 4-5 years old I would think.

The processor is 800 megahertz IDTP Pentium 2?

32 kilobyte memory cache with 128 megabytes memory installed.

I am using NTL broadband cable.....but have fitted a Realtek ethernet card which it is failing to install due to missing the PCI Simple Communication Controller.

When searching for it I keep on being taken to Microsoft

Device manager shows the yellow icon beside PCI Simple Communication Controller

 

I have tried to fix it with an XP disk from my other PC.....which I believe is naughty.

Okay thanks, no problem. Can you download that program above from another PC and burn it to a CD so that we can use it on this PC with the network card issue.

Many apologies for my absence, I lost the link to this site, I am a silly Billy I know.

 

The problem has moved on, and got a lot lot worse.

The PC in question just will not start at all.

It boots only to the stage where it says Verifying DMI Pool Data the Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: Error loading operating system.

That is where it stays.

I cannot enter BIOS, or Setup.

 

I downloaded and used DBan to wipe the drive then loaded XP home, after running into other problems that I cant recall now, I went through the same procedure, and ended up in the situation as it stands.

There was an error showing previously that the HD might be damaged.

Is there any hope of a HD ressurection ?

ALT CNTRL Delete wont reboot either, the only way to turn off is by the mains switch.

Boot to the xp cd and choose R to enter the Recovery Console. At the RC's command prompt, type in chkdsk /p to start hard drive error checking (space between the K and the /). When complete, type in exit and hit enter.
