B A Northfleet Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Hi... I got given a PC that had a Sata H/D ... it was running on Win 7.. Then i found out the Win 7 was an illegal version, so seeing as i owned a Genuine version of XP, i purchased a 2nd hand IDE H/D from shop and unplugged the Sata, plugged in the IDE H/D and i am up and running... And now my question... !!! I wanted to format the Sata so as to use as an extra H/D, but when i install it, my PC is not recognizing it at all....so i cant format it... ? What am i doing wrong / not doing right..?? Thanks in advance for any help Quote
maynardvdm Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Hi Does the Sata drive show up in the BIOS? In Windows XP, when you right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage" and go to "Disk Management", is the drive listed there? Quote We are all members helping other members. B A Northfleet Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 No... just the one hd : the IDE one Quote
B A Northfleet Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 Also, i double checked that it since still works, by just installing the sata and alls well, apart from it being illegal... ide h/d is set to master, wareas cant see that type of setting on the sata ( can only presume it doesn;t have this facillity...? ) Quote
KenB Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 SATA drives don't have a "master" or "slave" setting. Is there an option to configure SATA drives as IDE in the BIOS ?
