slab288 Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) Hi guys, Just wondering if all the programes listed below need to be running, obviously there are things running for Anti Virus, Printer etc but the vast majority of the 'Services' including those shown as 'Stopped' I have no idea what they are for or when they were installed. Is there anything I can stop and/or remove? By way of info, I'm not expecting anyone to go over this with a fine toothcomb just a glance and if anything pops out as being 'not needed' and can be removed then just let me know. KenB Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Hi I have just checked my running Services - I have about 80 running. What you have looks normal. If you like - if your boot-up time is slow-ish - is to set some that are obviously not essential to "Auto - Delayed Start" Use this for Services that are currently set to Automatic. The services will start after the machine has booted up and has settled down. Services connected to Firewall / AntiVirus really need to start Automatically. To change the start-up type do the following: Start > type in "Services.msc" Right click on the service > Properties Under Startup Type ( down arrow ) select Delayed Start. [ previously configured to Automatic only ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! slab288 Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 Thanks Ken, I appreciate your taking the time to have look, all looks normal sounds good to me and as I don't have a problem with a 'slow-ish boot-up time' I'll leave as is.........if it aint broke.........don't break it eh LOL!! Thanks again slab288 Quote
KenB Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 if it aint broke.........don't break it I prefer "if it aint broke .....don't fix it" ..........................both amount to the same thing :) Best left alone.
