KenB Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS If you are getting one beep then the initial POST test is good. Take all major connections and cards off the motherboard. ( RAM - NIC - Sound cards etc ) This includes power and data cables to hard drive and DVD drives. Disconnect any external devices. ( Keyboard etc ) Leave only the 24 way connection from the PSU Clean the contacts of the Video Card with a pencil eraser and put it back. ( assuming you have a card ) Connect up the monitor. Switch on. You should get stable graphics. (The POST beeps will be more than one this time ) What is the situation now? euanlivingstone Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 removed dvd and hdd. Graphics card is onboard so can't remove. get the same single beep but now they is no BIOS splash screen just blank. removed RAM. and now it gives me the BIOS error code: 3 short beeps space 3 short beeps cont. KenB Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Just confirm please: With RAM / NIC / SOUND cards ....... plus Hard Drive / DVD Drive disconnected Mouse and Keyboard and all external hardware disconnected. and with only the 24 way connection attached ( plus the moniter ) you get 3 short beeps ( this is correct as there is no RAM ) Is this correct ? You get nothing on the monitor after the initial splash screen. Is this also correct when everything is removed from the m/board as described above ? KenB Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Your m/board has a PS2 option for the keyboard. Do you have a PS2 keyboard to try ? Or if you are using PS2 - try a USB keyboard. I would like to check the Boot Order in the BIOS. ============== Your m/board has an 8 pin ATX connection ( corner of the board ) Do you have this connected ? ============== Did your m/board come with the CPU installed or did you fit it ? If you fitted it - is the heatsink seated properly on a thin layer of thermal paste? ============== Do you have a spare PSU to try ? It doesn't matter if the Wattage is different. Have tried 2 ps2 keyboards and 1 usb. could not get into BIOS. The 8pin 12cATX is connected. CPU heat sink came with thermal paste on it. no other power supply. think I am just going to have to return the MoBo and CPU Quote
KenB Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 think I am just going to have to return the MoBo and CPU I agree. From what you have said I would bet on the m/board - but it will certainly be one of them :) Good Luck.
