crimsoncynic Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Recently purchased an Asus Essentio CM6870-US-3AD Product is described here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3234272&tab=7&SRCCODE=WEBLET101SATSFY&cm_mmc=Email-_-WebletMain-_-WEBLET101SATSFY-_-Satisfy The computer works lovely except the Wifi has the following issues: Signal is weak - Fair or lower strength regularly Fluctuates between 1.0 -13.0 Mbps Refuses to load pages even though it says I have a connection When running diagnose it says there are no issues Can't run speed test on it because it won't load any websites We have two laptops in the same room with consistently excellent signal strength getting 43 - 60 Mbps. The one I use regularly is only 2 ft away from where the desktop sits. They are connected to the same network as well. Other asus laptop gets 44ms ping 26.7M download and 2.3 upload on speedtest Is it just a bad wireless card? :C i put a lot of money into this machine and i just want it to work. Quote

KenB Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Hi, Thanks for that information. I was thinking of trying a different channel on the router. BreatGritain Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 It may also be worth hard wiring the laptop to the router by ethernet cable. If its slow this way too, chances are it's not a wifi adapter hardware problem. Quote
crimsoncynic Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Hi, Thanks for that information. I was thinking of trying a different channel on the router. Modem - Arris TM722 Router - Cisco Linksys E3200 How would I go about changing the channel? I haven't done that before O: and how do I know what channel is best? It may also be worth hard wiring the laptop to the router by ethernet cable. If its slow this way too, chances are it's not a wifi adapter hardware problem. At the moment we have a 50ft cord running through the floor from one side of the house upstairs to the other side downstairs where I am and it doesn't reach. I plan on buying another cord and an extension if the wireless cannot be fixed or become reliable :C Quote
crimsoncynic Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Oh, I also did find a newer driver for the LAN card and installed it 3.2.7.0 it helped out with the signal a bit, and also helped with the speed when looking at the wireless network connection i've seen it hit 50Mbps a few times but it still fluctuates constantly and I still cannot load webpages. Bytes sent and received hover around 20k and the signal still drops randomly and has to "identify" the network regularly. I did reset the router and the modem after installing this new driver as well as reboot the desktop. Quote
KenB Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 At the moment we have a 50ft cord running through the floor....... I don't suppose you could connect to this temporarily by moving the pc or the router ? ( I don't know how much short you are ) did find a newer driver for the LAN card This is the card that uses the ethernet cable. I assume you mean the Wireless Adapter ? how do I know what channel is best? The router is like a radio transmitter - receiver. It uses different frequencies - much like a radio picking up different channels. Some of these frequencies overlap - ( there are 13 of them ) The channels to select to rectify interference problems are 1 / 6 / 11 I suspect your router will be set to one of these. I would like to check and select a different one. Using one of the laptops that has a stable connection: Open an internet browser and in the address bar ( where the http\\ www. is ...) delete all that is there and type in .. 192.168.1.1 .........then hit ENTER You will be prompted for a username and password. If you have not set these leave the username blank and the password is Admin. Once inside the router settings you are looking for the Wireless tab Click on this > Basic Wireless Settings > Manual On the Network Mode you should have a 5GHz and a 2.4 GHz band I suggest that the setting here should be "Mixed" Is it ? You should also see Channel as an option. This is usually set to auto There should also be other options available ( 1 to 13 ) Try selecting channel 1 You can try channel 6 and 11 too if necessary. Save the changes - save settings - bottom of page. ============== I am not familiar with the Arris - but the manual suggests that 2 telephone line connections are possible. Do you have this option or just one line connected ? ============== Is this a fibre-optic connection ? ============== Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
