ollie2012uk Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 No the netgear is on channel 11 on g mode and the dlink is on channel 1 on b mode Quote
KenB Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 When I download on one i struggle to maintain a connection with the other I would have guessed at channel interference - you have just ruled that out. Does this happen every time? I assume that it doesn't matter which you d/load on the other loses connectivity ? Are they both wireless or ethernet connections ? When you say you struggle to maintain the connection - does the number of bars indicating signal strength drop ? Icon bottom right of screen. KenB Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I can't see it being a pc or router setting. ( I am willing to be proved wrong ) We have a member who used to install home networks - he may have experience of similar symptoms. I will ask him to take a look :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test

BreatGritain Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi. I don't know how much use I will be. I install in homes rarer than businesses, so it's rare for me to see more than one router in one property. Forgive the way this is worded - do you really have two connections, or are you piggy-backing off next doors wifi? Which router is it that seems to drop off? Or is it either when you're using the other? Quote
KenB Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 In addition to BreatGritain's questions it would help if we knew the answer to this that I asked earlier Are they both wireless or ethernet connections ? KenB Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 yes I have two connections I am sure BreatGritain will ask this - so I will jump in ..... Do you have separate master sockets ( where the line comes onto the house ) ? Or are they next to each other on the same box ? http://www.plus.net/images/support/broadband/btmastersocket_type1.png This is NOT exactly what I was looking for - but it will do as an example :) Do you have filters on both systems AND on everything else connected to the lines ? Synapse Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 its when I literally max out the connection on one of them! Then i cant access the other network on my ipad or 2nd laptop or iphone. Literally like the 2nd one drops off the face of the earth When one is flat out, are you able to connect to the other one using an Ethernet cable - I'm wondering if we looked at cabled performance before wireless to try and nail down where the problem is. If you cannot get on the Internet with the second one, connected with a cable as described above, can you at least log in to the second router and look at the connection, stats etc? Quote
KenB Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 In addition to Synapse questions .... Do you have filters on both systems AND on everything else connected to the lines ? You didn't answer this. BreatGritain Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Also, Are your devices trying to connect to both networks at the same time? Each device will only have one network adapter, therefore can only connect to one router wirelessly at any one time. This will usually be either the one that has the strongest wifi signal, or the devices "preferred" network. So you may be thinking that the other network stops when in reality your device isn't even connected to it? Quote
