ABitOfANoob Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi, I am new to pc gaming and have only had my pc for a year. Now I am considering getting a better graphics card and power supply, but I don't really know what to look for, so advice on this would be greatly appreciated. My current pc specs are: GPU- AMD Radeon HD 6670 Motherboard- Foxconn H61MXL/H61MXL-K CPU- Intel Core i5-2320 (Sandy Bridge) Power supply- 405W RAM- 8GB I am considering upgrading to these, do they seem compatible with my pc?- http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-xfx-radeon-hd-7950-double-d-black-ghost-hcell-5500mhz-gddr5-900mhz-1792-cores-hdmi-mini-dp http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-cooler-master-gx-rs-550-acaa-d3-uk-85-eff-80-plus-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v2 Thanks in advance :) Quote
KenB Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS Although your chosen PSU is just about enough to run that card I would consider upgrading that a bit [ the PSU ] ( if you can afford it ) to future-proof. Found this - your card cheaper click here [not the black edition] You will like this click here The "Boost" actually over-clocks the Video Card in-game from what I have read. Gives that little extra "boost" during gaming. The card in all other ways - is basically the same as your chosen one. You may want to price this one up. click here This card ( 7950 ) requires 2 x 6 pin power connectors Does your PSU have these ? EDIT - just checked ......yes :) It is a dual-slot card ( wide ) and takes up two slots This is common with high-end cards. Your PSU states 85% efficient. This is normal for PSUs ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,your 550 Watts will be nearer to 540 Watts This will get less as the PSU ages. ABitOfANoob Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Thanks for the help! I appreciate it. But yeah, I think the XFX AMD Radeon HD 7950 seems like the best option right now. And I'll look into getting a 600 watt psu Quote

ABitOfANoob Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 I went with the XFX AMD Radeon HD 7950 DD 3GB GDDR5 http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdhd7950series/fx-795a-tdjc.html I also found a 600W power supply, with the right pins for the gpu (It requires 1x6pin and a 1x8pin, which is a little awkward) Quote
