scotlass Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi Guys I am undertaking my first self build. I have (possibly foolishly) bought 2x4GB Corsiar Vengance RAM to go with my Intel I5-3570K on my Asus P8Z77M-Pro motherboard. I would now like to buy a aftermarket heatsink and in particular the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2.(Mainly for its price and avaliability in my local store) I have read in numerous reviews that this Corsair RAM can cause problems when installing a number of aftermarket heatsinks. I am looking for any info on if this cooler will sit comfortably on my Motherboard with this RAM? Any help and tips would be much appreciated. Quote
Helcaraxe Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi take a look here > http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/detail?sArticle=4.%3F The Arctic Freezer 7 Pro can be mounted in 4 different positions on Intel Processors. I have the Arctic Freezer 13 Pro fitted on my AMD processor and i have only two fitting positions available to me and the heatsinks on my ram are only small compared to the Corsair ones and my cooler only just clears them. But looking at your option to turn the cooler 90 degress looks as if it should clear the RAM. Vr5fx Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 To add to what has already been said, I've looked at a few pictures of the Arctic Cooler mounted in some cases. With the fan over on the RAM side it looks like it sits over the first slot (black) which isn't a problem as the blue slots can be filled first. But there are many options with rotating it. Let us know how you get on. -Vr Quote AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png
Helcaraxe Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Just an extra thought seeing as you say you would be buying from your local shop. You could always purchase the Cooler and offer it up to your board to check for clearances over your RAM in the four different mounting posistions. As long as you don't peel off the plastic on the pre applied thermal paste or open any of the sealed packaging you should be to return it to the shop or maybe take your computer to the shop and ask if they could offer it up to your board to check.
