TurkishDelight Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Every time I turn my computer on a message pops up saying "Diskette drive 0 seek failure Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter SETUP" Does anyone know how to fix this issue so that this message doesn't pop up every time? Thank you. Quote
KenB Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hi T-D, This sounds like a BIOS setting .............it is looking to boot from a floppy drive Switch on and constantly tap F2 about once per second ..........or wait untill you get the "Press F1 / F2 ..." and press F2 This should take you to the BIOS settings You are looking for the Boot Order ( Boot Sequence or similar ) Move around with the arrow keys. You should see a list of devices. The CDROM should be first in the order and the Hard Disk Drive second. If your Floppy Drive is first .....move it down the order. It will say on screen how to do this but is normally with the + / - keys Once you have the order right Save and Exit ( usually F10 ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! TurkishDelight Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 I done as you instructed but this message still pops up. Here are images of the BIOS screen and what I did. You mentioned something about a Floppy Drive, I found it under the Removable Device Priority however there was nothing else with it in the sequence. Quote
KenB Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hi thanks for the photos - they are very helpful. Can you right click on the floppy Disk and disable it ? TurkishDelight Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 No, it won't let me use the mouse at all and when I do right click nothing happens. Quote
KenB Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Sorry - my error !! If you click on it ( Enter Key ) does it open up an option to disable ? Do you have a Floppy Drive on this machine ? TurkishDelight Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Haha it's okay. No nothing comes up when I press the enter key. No I don't have a floppy drive, just two DVD drives. Quote
KenB Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hi Try taking the CMOS battery ( silver coin size battery ) out of the motherboard. Wait for 1 minute and put it back. Note the + is on top. This will re-set the BIOS to defaults. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
TurkishDelight Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 I done this but it hasn't solved the problem, a message did come up saying that the CMOS was reset and that the defaults were loaded but when I restarted my computer the same message arose. Quote
KenB Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 OK - Back to the BIOS Advanced Settings ( or similar ) You are looking for "Boot Floppy Seek" ............and anything else related to Floppy Drive This needs to be disabled. http://www.offertagratis.com/images/stories/software/boot%20up%20floppy%20seek.jpg Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
