Barn Owl Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hi-Please can anyone help me out. I accidentally disabled the internal speakers on my Toshiba Laptop which operates on Vista. I was having trouble getting the earphone system to work and I thinks that's where my troubles started. I am now just left with the earphones working O.K. and also the 'Digital Output Device' (SPDIF), which I imagine enables external speakers to be operated from the machine, but the Harman Kardon internal speakers aren't enabled and I've searched all over my Laptop to try to find out where I can enable them from, but the option seems to have disappeared. I'm wondering now if I've somehow deleted the drivers, but if so I can't think how I could get them back. Can anyone possibly shed any light on this for me. Thanks in advance..... Quote
Vr5fx Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Hiya. Normally when you plug ear-phones in they should automatically turn off internal speakers as long as they are plugged in. And when you pull them out the speakers should be the primary sound source. In the bottom right, right click on the speaker, and open "playback devices" In here there are a few options. On the white space right click and tick "show disabled devices" http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/Cougie/Misc/Speakers_zpsb4bbc1cb.jpg The default speakers will be named "speakers" if you have disabled them is should now appear. Right click "speakers" and set it as default device. Assuming this has worked you can then adjust the sound level ans test them to make sure the sound comes through. Let us know if this helps. -Vr Quote AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png
Barn Owl Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 Thanks for that. I. I'm on another laptop at the moment and I've tried your suggestion out on this one. I understand what you mean and I'll try it out later today. I wonder, though, if it will show up the same on the other machine as this ones runs on Windows7, and the other is Vista. Just a point, really, but I suspect there won't be any big differences. Quote
Barn Owl Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 Thanks, Vr. I've got my sound back now. Easy when you know how! Thanks a million. I might have got there on my own in the end, but you've undoubtably saved me a lot of time and frustration on the way.......I owe you one!! Quote
