Bazza Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Have tried to delete some wav music files from my pc. When I look in my music they seem to have been deleted ok. However when I go into my media player the file names/files still appear to be there. I've tried to delete them in windows media player but it won't remove them. They seem to be empty but are causing some confusion to my playlists as they will not play the list in order of selection - they now keep skipping to random play? How do I permanently remove these files/filenames so they do not appear each time I go into windows and resolve the playlist issue. Quote
Vr5fx Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 With Windows Media Player open, right click on the top bar (if the menu is hidden) -> Tools -> Apply media information changes. This option will "remove" dead files from the library and update current ones. Let us know how you get on. Plastic Nev Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Hi, if you right click on any item in your play list, you should see "Remove from list", does this not work? Nev. RandyL Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Could this be the recently/frequently played in the History? If so in Media Player right click the top of the toolbar just below the title bar and select Tools>Options. Click on the Privacy tab then click Clear History and Clear Cache. Bazza Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Thanks for this. In the meantime I have also run windows troubleshooter on my pc for the media player . it says that my music library is corrupted. This seems to be the problem indentified. How do I fix this? Quote
seedy21 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Hello Bazza You can try this and see if it helps :) 1. Click Start , click Run , type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player , and then click OK . 2. Select all the files in the folder , and then click Delete on the File menu. Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder. 3. Restart Windows Media Player. Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database. If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files . To do this, follow these steps: # If you are running Windows 7/Vista, click Start , click Run , type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft , and then click OK. # Select the Media Player folder , and then click Delete on the File menu. # Restart Windows Media Player . Bazza Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Thanks for this. I have followed your instructions and this has cleared the old corrupted windows media library and rebuilt a new one which seems to work ok. Quote
