turbogold24 Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi Basically I have been pitting off installing wireless for a long time and I no why .. anyway finally took the plunge and was sent a echolite HG520s router from Talk talk ... used the connect & go cd and then discovered my PC was not wireless enabled so had to go and buy a USB adaptor .. got this installed blah blah and working fine connected and working fine BUT .. when the pc is shut down and switched back on I have to keep entering the WEP key which is 26 characters long .. if i cliick on connect to wireless it states windows can not configure this ??? so i have to click on wireless LAN card clieck connect and put in WEEP key .. i thought you didnt have to sign in all the time .. this is a nightmare .. how do I get it that it auto connects or the system has the key stored to save all the hassle .. my head is battered and I may go back to wired connection through modem if I cant figure this out any help appreciated Alison Quote

RandyL Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Keep looking here turbo. The network people should be on later today. I don't have wireless or XP (I use vista now) so it's not my area. I'm sure they can help with this one. RandyL Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. AdvancedSetup Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi Alison, What make and model of the USB adapter did you purchase? You should be able to allow Windows to manage the connection and then under the profile for your connection name it should save it once you've actually connected successfully connected and gotten an IP from the router and can get to a website to confirm the connectivity is working. If it does not or can not get an IP and browse the Internet then it will not save it and then you would have to re-enter the key each time. Try letting Windows manage the connection and then see if you can get on and save it. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Tony D Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 If you click on the Windows Wireless Utility as you probably did in post #1, there will be a note saying something to the effect "If you want Windows to manage this connection, click on the Advance button'. The button will be to the left of the window. Let Windows manage the wireless connection. I've seen several computers where Windows handles the wireless connection better than the software that comes with the adapter. Quote Need help with your computer problems?
