I'm not at all familiar with connection machines via serial to USB converter, so I'll just touch on the basics of troubleshooting Yellow Question Marks in the Device Manager.

When you reinstalled the XP, Windows didn't have the driver you need for this device. Have you tried bringing up the Device Manager and reinstalling the driver - it should ask if you want to check on the Internet - say YES and hope it find the correct driver.

If not, go to the manufacturer's site and see if you can download it from there.

I can't see how you would need a driver for a cable Alpha.

It may well be that it's asking for a device driver for the sat receiver.

What make and model is the receiver?

hiya,

yes all these were downloaded before cable problem, i found a dynamode file for what i though was lead but it had many files on it and when wizard came up gave it option to look in that file and it did nothing, it was a rs232 file, i even burnd onto cd rom and that did`nt work when it asked for cd rom to be loaded.

Have another look in that "File" and look for an icon called Setup.

i looked in that file and there about 15 separate files in there and there seem to be 3 set up information files one is a (ftdibus file 4KB) and other is (FTDIPORT file 5KB) and lastly a (FTsermou 2KB) apologies this is in USB Serial File.

IN rs232 File there is 1 that says (HIDCOM 5KB File)

any ideas it all means nothing to me ???????

Cheers

Please download and extract this driver.

http://www.dynamode.co.uk/support/usb_usb-serial.html

Once the adapter shows up in Device Manager, update its driver by choosing the location to search for the driver. Navigate to the extracted folder and the driver should install.

Go into DM where the yellow triangle is (like you said in your original post). That should be the adapter. Click on the plus sign beside it, then right click on the adapter and choose Update Driver.

Don't choose the internet search, then choose "Install from a specific location". Put a check on "Include This Location In the Search", then click Browse and navigate to the extracted folder. When you've found the folder, highlight and click OK. It should now appear in the Location field.

Now click next to install it.
