nightslicer Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Hi guys, recently ive noticed my pc requiring multiple restarts before completely loading but also i recieved an error on uTorrent stating: cyclic redundancy check. I read that this error was a code to tell me that my hard drive was failing. However i have 2 hard drives, 1 is specifically for doanloads and uTorrent. The other contains other stuff like the OS. Im not sure if my assumption is correct. Is my hard drive failing? Quote
KenB Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hi CRC errors could indicate a failing hard drive - they could also indicate a power failure causing data loss. The multiple restarts could be PSU related or a problem with the hard drive itself. Try this: Start ..... type in ...cmd ......right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in .... chkdsk C: /r /f .......ENTER There is a space after ...sk and after C: and /r This will check C: drive for errors and attempt to fix them if it finds any. nightslicer Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 okay, thanks a lot. i hope it isnt the psu tbh. Quote
KenB Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 i hope it isnt the psu Replacing the PSU is possibly easier that replacing a hard drive and re-installing. Certainly quicker :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
