Hello, today i bought a gtx 650 as i wanted to enhance my gaming but when i plugged it in i just got a no signal screen. yes i have plugged the power in and i have checked in the bios to see if it is active. This card is PCI-E 3.0, mine is only 1.0 could this possibly be the problem? also when i put my old graphics card back in it works. i have also tried the gtx in my dads system and it works fine, what could it be?

Specs:

Core 2 duo 2.66 E6700

GTX 650

Foxconn n15235

ezcool power supply 500 watt

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, no doubt there will be someone else available with a bit more knowledge and idea's than I have.

However I doubt that the fact your system is only PCIe 1.0 and the card is PCIe 3.0 is the reason for not working as PCIe of all numbers or speeds is supposed to be compatible.

However if your system is only capable of PCIe 1.0 (Are you sure about that?) the card once it is made to work, will only run at the slower speed, this is known as 2.5 gigatransfers per second for number 1.0

For PCIe 3.0 the speed is up to 8 gigatransfers per second.

Considering the speed reduction on your motherboard, you may not see a great improvement in performance even if we can get the card to work is what I am saying.

I will let one of our graphics guys know you need help though.

Hello, i have used gpu-z and it says that my pci-e port is - PCI-E 1.1 x16@ x16 1.1 if this means anything.

Thank you for the fast reply :)

When the graphics card is plugged in and power to it, just a few questions that answers to them may help.

First have you looked in device manager to see if it shows up there?

Also did it come with any driver software and have you installed that?

And finally the old card that was in may need to be disabled for the new one to be recognised, have you looked into doing that?

Hello,

I cant actually get in to the drive manager because the pc wont boot on this new card, therefore i can not istall the drivers and i only have the one pci slot so the other was already disabled.

Hello Bollaard

The Motherboard looks like it has On Board Graphics.

In the BIOS please change it On Board Graphics, Install the New Graphics Card and then When you are Log in, Have a look at Device Manager.
