Allister Gray Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Good Morning Hope someone can help me with this. A while ago (probably around 2 or 3 years ago now) I got a Seagate 1TB external hard drive and the case broke where the usb connects in the computer. I took it out the case since the case was no use anymore and the warranty was finished. I can connect into my computer internally and it seems to work fine, however I have only 2 SATA ports so I couldn't have my DVD writer connected. I got a 2.5" connector and it fits into the drive perfectly and the light shows that, however there is nothing showing up on the computer, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Do I need to get a bigger external bay for it to work? Or is there anything I can do? If I do have to get a new drive bay, what is the best and cheapest? Thanks in advanced for your time :) Quote
KenB Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS If you can connect the drive internally - but when connected to the USB port it isn't recognised it could well be that the USB port isn't providing enough power to run the drive. ( I know it should .... but I have come across incidences where it doesn't ) You could try one of these: click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Jelly Bean Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Sorry to but in but does the drive start up? Can you feel it vibrate or hear it power on? Does it show in "Disk Management"? Open "Run" box and type in diskmgmt.msc and hit enter on your keypad.Doesthe drive show up there? If yes it may need to have a drive letter assigned to it.If it does show up can you tell us what it states for that HDD please. JB. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
