mikey1972 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 This is an issue that suddenly occured yesterday. I have two Dvd drives that i have tried both when connected to the pc show as dvd drives. That is until a DvD+ disc is placed into the drive. When this is done the Drive fails to recognise the DvD and shows it as a CD. I am unable to burn any DvDs through nero, img Burn Ultra Iso etc. I have uninstalled software for all applications associated to with the drives and reinstalled yet the issues hasnt gone away. I believe it may be an issue with the os sadly i do not want to reinstall as i can not back up my data. The only issue that i can think to do now is to remove the c drive and replace it. reinstall my os on a new drive then place the old drive back into the machine and use as a secondry hard drive? Seth Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Try this if AS's suggestion doesn't work: Start>Run, type in regedit and click ok. Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} NOTE: Restart the computer. mikey1972 Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 Thanks guys, I have tried both the suggestions all ready to no avail. software that uses the optical drives are. nero 8, ultra iso, vso convert x to dvd dvd decryptor. also i believe that all the dvd convertor software actually uses nero to burn the dvds all have been removed and reinstalled. AdvancedSetup Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Try removing the Nero Scout and similar indexer applications as well as any drag to disk type software. Sounds like one of them has taken over and it just needs a registry cleanup, but that can be difficult to find the correct fix, not like all incompatibility of competing software is stored or tracked anywhere that I'm aware of. AdvancedSetup Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 You could also remove both optical drives in the Control Panel - Add/Remove hardware or in Device Manager delete them. Then shut down. Remove both drives. Start up and make sure no issues. Then shut down and plug in just 1 drive and start back up. It should auto detect it and enable it. Test and see if it works okay now. Then shut down and plug the 2nd optical drive back in. Start up and test again. If supported use the CS (Cable Select) settings from the optical drives. If that fails then you may want to double-check by placing the DVD drive into another computer and verify it sees it as a DVD drive. Its possible that maybe there is a hardware issue with it.
