Hi all

I have an Hp touchsmart desktop 14 months old and it looks like my power adapter has bit the dust. Anyway Hp Uk dont stock any and neither does anyone else in the Uk by the looks of it. Its looking like its a case of ordering from America or ordering through someone in this country again from America. What I find most annoying is that it seems impossible to buy some thing like a power cable from this country and Im looking at £100 plus regardless of whether I try ang get one myself or let someone else order for me. Unbelievable.

Would it be worth getting my power adapter refurbished ?

Any advice or help would be very much apreciated guys.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

Can you let us know the full model number of your PC we may be able to find something of help for you. No promises mind but sometimes we can turn up a dealer you might have missed seeing.

If this power adapter is similar to most as in mains power in and low voltage out, and there are any details on it such voltage and power in Watts or amps, there may even be an alternative that can be used. Let us know the details if there are any please.

I doubt if it could be refurbished or repaired as these things are usually sealed with little or nothing replaceable inside, even once you have broken your way into them. However do give it a good looking over, if you can see either screws or other fixings, perhaps hidden under a label, there may be a small chance.

Let us know what you find and we will see where we can go from there.

Nev.

Hi. I've done some digging and have found these.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/19V-135W-GENUINE-HP-TouchSmart-310-520-AC-Adapter-Battery-Charger-Power-Supply-/171023140580?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccessories_PowerSupplies&hash=item27d1c606e4

Obviously they are not cheap, so we need to be certain that they are the same Volt and amp. Both of those are listed as;

135w, 19v 7.1amp.

7.4mm/5.0mm, central pin.

Looking through this page for reference.

Are those listed adapters the same specification as yours? Check the pin size too, as it needs to be the correct size.

Let us know what you think.

Hi

If the link provided by Vr5fx is your machine the Power Supply is listed as :

Total wattage: 180W external power adapter (100V-240V)

Output voltage: 19V

Output Amps: 9.5

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi Vr

Checked your links, they look a bit different to mine price wise I would have taken either as what I have seen so far is £100 plus which is somewhat over the top for what you are buying. Some part numbers I have got are 180W Con 11 EPS and 669265-001. Again when I search for these part numbers it looks as though it will be a case of ordering from the USA or through a third party in this country with a 3 week delivery both asking silly money.

Dont know where to go from here to be honest, I thought buying a power cable in this country would be straight forward and fairly cheap too.

Many thanks for your input though and thanks to Ken also.

I use a multi charger. It cost me about £40-00 when I bought it.Maker Targus.I have about 10 adaptors with my one and there is an adaptor that fits your HP.You can also buy the different type and size adaptors as extras.

It would do your HP and it also doubles up as a mobile phone charger,iPhone etc.

PCWorld sells the Touchsmart chargers.

The laptop power supply shop sells them for around £29-99.

In the UK to.

My fav is also selling them, Play.com with FREE delivery on everything.
