I called tech advice for my pc and what a waist of time that was !

I recently was having problems with my pc things were running slowly and some other issues were affecting its running, so i thought (before i found out about this great forum) i would call my technical advice line as i have still just a 3 year cover and number to call.

 

Big mistake got this guy on phone that said what you need to do is do a full system recovery, i told him that i have photos and other files that i did not want to loose and he said not to worry all will be ok, which at the time i thought surely that`s not right, but foolishly i went ahead with it, big mistake it was as i thought i lost all my photos etc and it did`nt even solve problem that i had called up about. He then claimed that he had not told me to do so, what a joker this guy was so anyway managed to fix my pc myself with alot of help from this forum reading through threads that had been posted previously, but i really want to know i know its probably not possible but can i find those photos i lost when i did this full system recovery ??

If you did a "Destructive" recovery then your pics could be gone, if you did a "Non-Destructive" recovery then there may be a chance to save your pictures.

Run a search for any .jpg .bmp .png files

Tthese are both free data recovery programs. I have used ( Drive Rescue ) a few times with decent recovery. I have not personally used (PC Inspector File Recovery) it was recommended on another site. Good Luck! Cindy

have downloaded this software is there a way of using it so it just finds jpeg images i saved and now cannot find, what is best option to use from the 4 it gives you, also if i find photos i lost can i then save them in new folder on pc or do i have to subcribe to this software to do so,

In that case, I would definitely try PC Inspector File Recovery. You can download it HERE It looks as if it is "user friendly".

Well if you're sure you don't want the documents and only the pictures then this one should work just fine.

You need to have another hard drive to restore to though. It can be an external USB drive if you want. Just plug one in and assign a drive if not done autmatically (most of the time it is).

Then install and run the Smart Recovery software and restore what it finds to the external USB drive.

 

Although you will have a much better chance of restoring data if you can do all of this by placing your current hard drive into another working PC and using the software.

Use the File Recovery if you want to restore other file types.

I have just run this software but could not preview or see what it found any advice ?

Not exactly sure what you mean by that.

 

You can not actually view the images, you should see a list of files (if it found any) that can be recovered.

You would then select those files and restore them to the external USB drive.

 

Did you use the SMART Recovery software or the File Recovery ?

 

For images the SMART Recovery has a bit more advanced feature to attempt image recovery.

i HAVE FOUND THAT THIS ONE WORKS BEST FOR ME BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM, i have found files i wanted but when i go to save it asks me for a license key can anyone help please ?

To the best of my knowledge, PC Inspector is free.

 

Recover My Files is brilliant in that it can reconstruct the file table so you don't spend hours or days searching through thousands of recovered files, and/or you can selectively search for only certain files such as .jpg

Recover my files will allow you to view the files but not restore them, well unless you pay of course.

I have just downloaded this software on start up of it says select device which i have then format type which i have then select destination. Excuse my ignorance but what am i doing wrong when it says after i select Start it says (the source and destination drive are identical) do i need to use say something like a separate hard drive device ??

To be able to use PC INSPECTOR™ File Recovery 4.x you need a working WINDOWS™ System. Never install the current version on the drive from which you intend to recover data! The software must be installed and run on a second, independent drive.

You will have to run it from either a second hard drive or a partition on your main drive, but preferably a second physical drive.

That is entirely true Alpha and I would always recommend getting an extra hard drive, be it external or internal, as a place for you to back up your personal stuff.
