mechanic Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Sorry to say tried this and it did not help. Quote
KenB Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 This is an outside chance ...... Start > type is .....system restore ....ENTER Follow the prompts and select a date just prior to the start of your problem. Files / photos etc will be OK. Installed software and critical updates will need to be installed again. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! mechanic Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Unfortunately it comes back saying that no system restore points have been created. Quote

mechanic Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Hi Armageddon, thanks for the interest.I don`t think there is much i would worry about losing as i have been backing up before this problem occurred. Quote
KenB Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Hi I think Armageddon was going to suggest a re-install of the Operating System. This is always a last resort - but it looks as if we have run out of ideas. Would you be prepared to try this? All of your data would need backing up as you would lose everything. Do you have an installation disk or recovery disks ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! mechanic Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 I would be prepared to try a re-instal.I was not supplied with an os disk when the laptop was purchased and unfortunately didnt make any recovery disk either.I have just purchased a windows 7 os disk but have noticed it is meant for system builders only. Can i use this to re-instal? Quote
KenB Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Hi I have just purchased a windows 7 os disk but have noticed it is meant for system builders only. Can i use this to re-instal? Grey area in my opinion. You should be OK as - technically - you are the "system builder". There was a cheaper option ..... If the retailer will accept the un-opened package back again we can possibly do this for no cost using an ISO download. You would need the original Win7 sticker off the machine. Is this a possibility ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
mechanic Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 I have the product key from when the the operating system was installed on the laptop.Unfortunately i opened the package! Quote
mechanic Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 An iso download would be ok.I just don`t know how to go about it or from were. Quote
KenB Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Unfortunately i opened the package! If you contact the seller and ask if they would accept it as a return - you never know :) Let us know which option you are going to use. Obviously - if you can return the bought version this would be better for you ( Free ) The bought version is probably a little simpler to install - less processes. mechanic Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 I have contacted the seller and they will not accept a return as the product has been opened. Quote
KenB Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I suggest that you use the product that you have bought. What does it say on the label on the CD that you have bought? Is it a legal disk? ================== First of all check that the CDROM is the first in the Boot Order in the BIOS. Switch on and constantly tap DEL ....... or it could be F2 key. If this doesn't do it - You should see ...."Press ** to enter Setup" when you switch on. This will take you into the BIOS. Move around with the arrow keys. You are looking for "Boot Order" or "Boot Sequence" or simlar. If you need to move the CDROM up the sequence it will tell you on screen how to do this. Save and Exit if you do need to change the order - usually F10 =============== If you have any data that needs to be backed up I would do this before you start the re-install process. mechanic Posted May 26, 2013 Author Posted May 26, 2013 I have looked at the disc and it has come in microsoft packaging. The disc case says it is intended for distribution with a new pc and has, windows 7 pro, service pack 1,32 bit, and the product key also printed. Quote
KenB Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Hi .The disc case says it is intended for distribution with a new pc This sounds like an OEM disk that companies like Dell use. When it says "......distribution with a new pc " it means exactly that. When you buy the pc from - say Dell - they will give you a copy of the installed OS too. I doubt that this disk that you have bought is a "legal" copy. Where did you get it ? How much did you pay ? ( you can PM me with these details if you wish ) If it was eBay it may be worth contacting the seller again. If it was eBay then you have a chance of getting a full refund if this is, in fact, an illegal sale. Any chance of a photo of the disk and packaging ? Just trying to make a case for you getting your money back :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
