tismehi Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 i am considering replacing my aging laptop very soon and wonder what any opinions people may have about the acer V3-771G 17.3 V3 1TB 8GB blu-ray laptop. it is a good enough price at £379-99 from bargain hunters. i generally only use my laptop for surfing, emailing, photo editing, playing music and watching the odd movie. i never game or do anything too demanding. KenB Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Hi I am on my second Acer laptop - the first one is still going strong after 5 or 6 years. I have Googled that specific machine and at that price it looks like a bargain. The cheapest I found it was £549 You don't say which CPU ..........they seem to come with i5 or i7 ............i7 obviously ups the price. I am working on a V3-571 at the moment ........... no problems. It is new at that price - not refurbished ? tismehi Posted May 4, 2013 Author Posted May 4, 2013 more specs: intel Core i5 dual core 3210M processor. 2.5GHz processor speed. 8GB DDR3 ram memory. 1TB sata hard drive. windows 8. the seller confirms that they are new with warranty. Quote
KenB Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Sounds good. Have you had a look at Windows 8 ? It is totally different from Vista and Win7. It is either a case of liking it or hating it :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Plastic Nev Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Out of interest I also looked up what I could find, it seems there may be several versions under the same model number, I found one on Amazon for £587-00 which has the i3 processor, a 500GB drive and only 6GB of RAM. Someone else selling one similar to your spec but again only 500GB drive, and then quite a few including Argos with the 8GB RAM, 1TB drive but the i7 processor. Argos want a penny less than £600-00. Shame you couldn't get that version at the price you are paying. However reading specs and reviews, I wish I could afford one or I would be asking you to order two, it looks a very good laptop machine all round even with the i5 in it. Nev. tismehi Posted May 5, 2013 Author Posted May 5, 2013 i'm not at all sure about windows 8. i can remember though as each new version of windows comes out there are problems and lots of people don't like it for one reason or another. i believe we all eventually give in and become used to the current new version. hopefully if i get a windows 8 machine i will embrace it, (eventually), and i can find drivers for my printer, etc. i'm just about to comit to purchasing this acer v3 machine but i had one last look around the sellers site and i see a hp g6 laptop for sale with intel core i5 dual core i5-3230M processor. 2.6GHz processor speed. 8GB RAM memory. Intel HD Graphics 4000. 1TB SATA hard drive & Windows 8 also. £369.99. to me these 2 laptops are similarly spec'd but one is a 17.3" with 3-5hrs of a battery and the other is a 15.6" with a 6 hr battery. one of my sons suggests the acer and the other the hp i can't quite decide. KenB Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 I don't like telling members specifically where to spend their money. I can vouch for Acer because I have had 2. I know JellyBean does not have a good word to say about HP machines. If you are going to use the machine at home the battery life is not too important. For general purpose use both machines will be fine. I am afraid it is your choice :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
