I won't go into details of the why's and where fores but I have just used Kaspersky's removal tool to delete their antivirus program from my desktop computer which is running Windows XP. (ready to download there new version)

After the removal was completed the computer re- booted and when it came back up I find that my wireless mouse was not working. Tried it on this laptop and it works O.K.

Can I do anything to recover this and get the mouse working again, as at the moment I am not able to use the mouse which means I can't use the desktop?

I am going to try to borrow a wired mouse and see if that will work.

Please note that I am a silver haired surfer so be gentle with me lol.:o

Hi Kingsley and welcome :)

You will need a working mouse to be able to navigate around XP.

It is - sort of - possible using keyboard keys but you would be much better off with a mouse.

See if you can get hold of a wired one and if that works we are in business.

Get back to us either way.

I have already arranged the loan of a wiered mouse but won't get it until tomorrow and then won't be able to try it until Thursday. Will get back to you after then.

OK - if the wired ( USB ? ) mouse works then we can take it from there.

You could try re-installing the drivers for the mouse.

Presumably it came with a CD ?

Hi KenB

Borrowed a wired mouse, tested it on my Laptop and it worked O.K.

But can't get it to work on the problem Desktop.

I have no CD etc for drivers as the Mouse I was using originally was a doggle WiFi one and all I had ti do was insert into a USB port and the driver was found.

In any case, without a working mouse, I can't access anything on the Computer.

Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if the USB ports have died.

Does the desktop have USB ports at the back as well as the front?

Have you tried them with the mouse?

Does the keyboard work?

Some desktops have PS2 sockets - small round ones ( Green / Purple ) - has yours ?

( they will be at the back )

I am here for most of the morning :)

Yes - Desktop has front and rear USB.Tried wired mouse and the WiFi mouse in the back but that don't work, although both the mice light up so at least there is power at the USB's

Not sure about Keyboard, this is also WiFi, I have been able to open "Mail" using it but nothing else.

There are several round plugs at the back of the desktop but not sure what they are, coloured Green, Pink, Blue & yellow

Not sure if any of this is any help to you?

Hi

PS2 connections:

If you have these you can get a PS2 mouse - this should work.

We can use this until we find out what is wrong with your USB / Wireless.

( the green and purple connections )

This may help you navigate without the mouse for the time being.

If you can get to Device Manager ....... are your mouse ( wired ) and keyboard listed there ?

Hi, just popped in to say you can obtain an adapter that will allow a USB mouse to plug into the PS2 port, have a look here:-

http://www.amazon.com/USB-Mouse-PS2-Port-Adapter/dp/B0007OWO4Y

You might be able to get one locally to save time, if there are any computer and accessories shops near to you.

Funnily enough when I bought my Logitech marble mouse, there was one in the packaging with it, as it has a USB plug on the lead.
