Hi, I currently have a AMD HD 7570 Graphics card and a 300 watt PSU. My PC is a HP pavalion p6-2388ea desktop computer.

I have read from a website that in order to run my graphics card it requires 400 watts, but i only have a 300 watt PSU.

The trouble im having is that I want to upgrade my graphics card to a 650ti Nvidia which I have looked at the specs and again it says it requires a minimum of 400W PSU.

Do I need a new PSU for an upgrade of my graphics card or do you think it will run fine??

Many thanks

Liam

Hi Liam and welcome to ExTS

You are running a card at the moment with an "under-powered" PSU ..... and to all intents and purposes it is running OK.

This suggests to me that you are not stressing the card at all.

If you are upgrading for a specific purpose - to play games for instance - then this would stress the card more.

It really depends on what you intend to do on the PC.

My usual advice is, if the manufacturer suggests 400 Watt minimum, go for 500 Watts ........just to be on the safe side.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

I completely agree with Ken. 500 Watts would be ideal. Running a PC with an underpowered PSU can cause any number of problems, including damaging parts in the computer.
