digitalsmurf Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Ive got a laptop with no cd drive . (just to make this clear when someone tells me to use the windows install disk). So i've created a partition through the disk management, shrunk a 20gb section and then partitioned it as h: . So i've installed a Linux boot system on it and installed backtrack 5. Windows continued to work fine UNTIL I rebooted and now it boots straight into backtrack. I've gone into the boot menu on startup and it only gives me the option to boot from Samsung hdd, not from individual volumes. REMEMBER, no cd drive, no start up disk, nothing. Please someone help.. as i've got tonnes of work from my business on there. Remember, no cd drive, no startup nothing Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I am afraid I have no knowledge of Backtrack, the only Linux distro I have used are Ubuntu and Mint, so at a slight disadvantage. I can only ask does that operating system have the equivalent of Windows Disk management? If so can you have a look at and let us know what is shown on all partitions, and if possible to access each partition and what is on it. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Synapse Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 For me, the best option is to use a utility to restore the Windows bootloader. What version of Windows are you using? The only way I can see to repair it is to create a bootable USB drive, and fix it from there, I'd be looking at something like this http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/03/10/restore-the-windows-bootloader-to-mbr-after-dual-booting-with-linux/ There is a also a consideration of backing up your important data before repair, just incase.....
