Raviern9 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Okay, this is my first thread. I am not a computer whizz but I am perfectly capable of following instructions so do not hold back. I can't give you much information about my machine as I am unable to do anything on it, you will find this out soon, other than it is Windows XP Home Edition.So. My pc was working fine for the last few months and then it my Huawei Dongle stopped working, nothing was happening when I plugged it in, so my idiot brother did some "tinkering" around in Device Manager and uninstalled the USB's for my mouse and keyboard. Now the keyboard and mouse are new and usually worked fine, but they no longer do.So now when I log on I get this pop-up from the new-found Hardware Wizard."Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2934" and another of "USB Mass Storage Device" now the thing is, I can't install this because my mouse does not work.I can run everything on the BIOS Screen fine, my OS Disc is lost...if I need to buy a new disc then say so, so I can run system restore off that, or do I need to do a full re-install or buy a new PC or what.As for my dongle, if anyone has any solutions, the light just flashes green and nothing happens. It's a Huawei E321.Thanks,Raviern. Quote
Ray1000 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Raviern, If it comes to it I have a new XP Home disc you'll be able to borrow if your license number is still available. Someone will be along shortly to sort you out ... Ray Quote
seedy21 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi Raviern9 and Welcome to FPCH Turn your computer off through Shut Down. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. Once your computer's manufacturer logo (eg. 'ACeR') starts to show, start pressing the F8 key repeatedly. Keep pressing it until the Windows Advanced Options Menu loads up. Make sure 'Safe Mode' is selected, navigate to it by using the arrow keys. Press enter, and your computer will start booting into Safe Mode. Try and see if your mouse and keyboard work in here. KenB Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS :) If Seedy21's option doesn't do it for you............ ( try Last Known Good Configuration from the list too ) If the Mouse and keyboard are USB ............... try a PS2 mouse ( and keyboard ) The PS2 connections can be found on the back of your tower. They are green and purple - round in shape. Try to borrow them - but they would be relatively cheap to buy. There is an adapter you can buy http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/USB_to_PS2_mouse_adapter.jpg These cost next to nothing. ( be aware - you want a USB to PS2 adapter - not the other way around ) Once you get the mouse and keyboard connected using a couple of these - they should be functioning and we can take it from there. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
