Splodger1 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi guys, I am having this problem with my internet and I am kinda worried about it getting worse and not being able to solve/figure out the problem. Basically say a couple of hours after I have been using my computer, my internet stops working even though I am still connected to my LAN ethernet which works fine. First of all the browser use goes and I cannot reload/access webpages, I find it weird because even though the browser stops working, I am still able to play the multiplayer game which I have open for example Minecraft until I close and re-open the game, then it stops working too. Skype also works fine until I close and re-open it or try disconnecting and reconnecting to my internet. The internet loads and works fine after I restart my computer. I am kind of worried that I could of picked up a virus as I am usually pretty good with virus protection, I have AVG internet security and malwarebytes pro, I ran both of their virus scans but nothing was picked up. I have tried updating all of my internet drivers too, still no difference. If you could help me or require anymore information I will be happy to co-operate. Thanks for reading. Quote
KenB Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS :) If you have run MBAM and it found nothing at all then it is unlikely to be malware. Have you tried a different browser? Which browser are you using ? ============ When you next get the problem ...... Start > type in ....cmd .....right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type in .... ipconfig /all ( space after ipconfig ) Copy the log and post it here please. Right click on the log > select all > CTRL+C CTRL + V to paste it here. ( you will obviously need internet access ) If you need to re-boot paste the log into Notepad or similar and save it first. Splodger1 Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the help, I will get an ipconfig when it next happens and i'll post it here. As for the confliction theory; would it really be enough to conflict with whether the internet works, the firewall maybe? Also, I's not my browser, when it happens I can't use internet explorer or chrome (my default). I'm relieved that it's not malware. Thanks again for the help and I will post the information when I get it. Edited May 22, 2013 by Splodger1 Quote
RandyL Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Hi Splodger1; I don't know if it is malware or what it might be. The reason I asked is because if you have more than one real time antivirus programs enabled they can cause all sorts of havoc. If I am not mistaken Malwarebytes Pro includes real time antivirus protection as does AVG Internet Security. Temporarily turning one off or uninstalling one temporarily might make a difference if this is the case. One thing about Malwarebytes Pro is that if you downloaded the trial version and the trial period expired it reverts to Malwarebytes free version if you did not upgrade to the paid version. If that is the case then the real time protection does not exist on the free version. That is why I asked Ken if it might be an issue. Ken will be able to advise you more. Someone else may have insight too. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. KenB Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Ken could this be a case of AVG internet security and malwarebytes pro conflicting? Not too sure - we would need Starbuck or etavares to confirm. I think that MBAM is designed to run in parallel with any AV - so it should be OK. Temporarily turning one off ..... might make a difference Try this - it will do no harm and may confirm that Randy is correct. Splodger1 Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Thanks for the help, I have disabled all of the malwarebytes protection and I did buy malwarebytes pro so it's not gonna revert to free. If anything happens I will make a new reply and I am waiting for the problem to occur to get the ipconfig information. Thanks again and I will update you of any changes. Quote

Splodger1 Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 It's been a while now and I don't want to jinx it but since I disabled malwarebytes there doesn't seem to be anymore cuts, thanks so much fot eh help and if it happens again I will get a copy of my ipconfig for you. Thanks again. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Hi, a tip for you considering you paid for Malwarebytes and possibly by now cannot get any money back. Leave it in a disabled state but don't uninstall it. When you want it to do a scan, first disconnect from the internet, then temporarily open it, re-enable it, and run a scan with the AVG temporarily disabled. That way you will at least be getting some of your money's worth from Malwarebytes. In the mean time I will ask one of our security guys if he has any advice for you. Nev. Starbuck Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I have never run the Paid for version of MBAM, but i have come across conflict problems and over zealous blocking of web pages before. I don't actually recommend the full paid for version as i go by the old rule........ too much security is as bad as too little. I see at the moment 'Norton Internet Security' is blocking MBAM as a conflict. The free version is more than adequate if you have a good AV and Firewall in place. The amount of security that MBAM offers is controlled by this page: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/mbam1-1_zps2206921b.png You could try and untick some of the options .... maybe the malicious website protection to start with and see if it makes a difference. If you still have no joy, try asking about the possible conflict over at the MalwareBytes forums. http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?act=idx I have had a quick look on their forum, but can't find a problem matching the one you are experiencing. Maybe etavares would have more insight into this problem. Quote Member of:UNITE
Splodger1 Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 So it happened again and as promised here is my ipconfig, I did notice that when I logged into my computer after restarting AVG was telling me that firewall was off. Try this. click here Then run IPconfig /all again to confirm that it is disabled. Give this a try. Splodger1 Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 All my other stuff for example my iphone connects to the wireless just fine, I will try wiring up my laptop tomorrow and see if the error occurs. I am currently using wireless instead of wired on my computer to see if that makes any difference (faulty wire or something maybe?). Quote
