Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

OK there are some rare types of malware that can prevent access to the computer, but the computer does at least boot.

So can you explain in more detail exactly what happens when you first push the start button.

Also which make and model of computer do you have, or if a special or home build what motherboard and other specs Please.

It could eventually prove there is some sort of hardware or software fault which may not be cured by just changing the hard drive.

Hi and welcome to ExTS

I have moved your thread from the "Gaming" forum to the "Hardware" forum - at the moment this seems to be the most appropriate place.

it won't boot up

This does not necessarily indicate a virus - more than likely hardware ..........or even software issue.

As Nev says -

can you provide a bit more detail and any error messages please?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi, no problem about being some time since your last posting.

One thing we must know, do you have the disk for the XP system that was installed, the company that supplied the computer should have provided you with it at the time of purchase.

If they did not do so, even after this length of time, providing you have original paper work you should demand the disk from them as it is going to be needed to perform a repair.

Hopefully all that is wrong is a system file has become corrupted, the original disk can fix that, so let us know if you have or can obtain the Windows XP disk and we can then go further.
