Lowfellboy Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Hello all, help or advice please. My advent laptop will not recognize my wireless connection. It can recognize nearby wifi connections, but not ours, so I know the laptop is okay. The other laptops connect okay, and they recognize the wifi connection, so I know the wifi is okay. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Quote
KenB Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Hi Did this just happen ? Could you connect previously? What did you do last before you "lost" the connection? Try switching the router off > leave for 30 seconds > switch it back on. Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Are there any yellow exclamation marks next to "Network Adapters" ( click on the > at the side ) What is listed ? What is the make and model number of your router ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Lowfellboy Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Hi KenB, thanks for the reply. This has happened before when I have gone away for a week or so, when I turn all electrics off. It normally re-connects after a couple of days, however this has gone on for over a week. I will try what you suggest and get back to you. I might default it back to factory settings. It is 3 years old and is used a secondary laptop. Thanks again. Quote
KenB Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I might default it back to factory settings. I would suggest that this is a last resort. Let us know what you want to do :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Lowfellboy Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Hi again, The router is a Belkan. I tried the device management, and there were no yellow exclamation marks, in fact it showed the previous Realtek router, and not the current one. I will give it a couple of more days, then just reset it back to factory settings. Thanks again Quote
KenB Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Hi The router is a Belkan. What shows up in Device Manager ( Realtek ) would be your Wireless Adapter ( there is a difference ) I will give it a couple of more days It is up to you. Lowfellboy Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks again for the replies. It is still playing up, and I will reset it back to ``factory settings``. Just to confirm, if I do this, will it be as if it has just ``come out the box`` ie press F8 or F9? Thank you Quote
KenB Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I will reset it back to ``factory settings............will it be as if it has just ``come out the box`. Hi, If you re-set it to factory settings - yes - it will be returned to the "as you bought it" state. You will lose any installed software. You will lose any saved files and data ( photos for instance ) You will not have the Anti-Virus program that you have now. You will not have the updates that have been constantly installed to the system ( these can be added later ) ie press F8 or F9? I don't understand what you are asking here :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Lowfellboy Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Hi All again, I have decided to re-set it back to factory settings. Once it had gone through the process and re-booted, it still would not recognize my home wi-fi, but still recognozes the others. It has also set to the ``large icon`` display and will not let me set the resolution to a display of 1280x1024, as the slider bar will not go past 1024x768 display. Have I inadvertently deleted some drivers for the resolution? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance Quote
KenB Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 ......restored to factory settings ... I would suggest that this is a last resort. I did suggest this as a last resort - it seems that you are worse off now. Post the make and model number of your computer please Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Hi The drivers for your machine are here: ( These are all 32 bit - assume that 64 bit is not an option with your machine ) click here Download the ones you need to a memory stick and load them onto the problem machine from there. Lowfellboy Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Hi KenB, Many thanks for your help, the drivers have worked a treat. Funny, last weekend decided to have clearout and found the original packing in the loft with driver discs etc. Still cannot connect to the home wifi, not too bothered as PC back to day one, and can use on other wifi`s. Thanks again Quote

Lowfellboy Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Laptop will not recognise home wi-fi. Hello all again, I posted the following recently... My advent laptop will not recognize my wireless connection. It can recognize nearby wifi connections, but not ours, so I know the laptop is okay. The other laptops connect okay, and they recognize the wifi connection, so I know the wifi is okay. While I was not too bothered about getting this fixed, it is now starting to bug me. I know, I need to get out more. With KenB`s help I have reset back to factory settings and installed the drivers but the exact same thing happens, cannot find my home wi-fi, but will connect to everything else, and all other PCs in the house can connect to the home wi-fi. Any help much appreciated. For reference it is an Advent 6552, 17" screen, Widows Vista, 32 bit. Thanks Quote
KenB Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Hi, I have merged the two threads together to keep all relevant information in one place :) New install - drivers installed from Advent website ...... You see other other networks .... You can connect to other networks with this machine ... All other devices on the network can connect OK .... Is this all correct ? Let me have the make and model number of the router please. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Hi The manual for your router is here: click here Page 74 talks about Mac Address Filtering If this is enabled and your machine is not on the list you will not be able to access the router or the internet. Is this the case ? You will need to access the router to check. Using a computer that DOES have access .... Open up a browser ( Internet Explorer ) and in the address bar at the top delete everything. Then type in 192.168.2.1 .....hit ENTER If you have not set a password then just leave this blank > hit ENTER Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
