12tom Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I have visited a free porn site in the past, but never entered it by signing in or revealing my email address or any other details. Now i have an email from the site pop up in my email provider box saying that i now have a password for the site - i haven't opened it. On my mobile phone an obscene message has appeared, but no source, or identifier, is apparent - i haven't opened it either. There are no "unsecure" connections between my mobile phone and my computer that i'm aware of. What should i do about the above, and how did these disturbing leaks in security occur? I have avast, malware and microsoft security in place and no other breaches have, as far as i'm aware, occurred. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Firstly a warning, due to the fact most people are reluctant to admit to looking at porn sites, the malware writers have always targeted them. Some but not all porn site owners have cleaned up their act a little in recent times, but they are still a risk. Next is to delete those E Mails and messages. If you don't already have Malwarebytes download and install the FREE version from here:- http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ Be sure to choose the free version. Once downloaded make sure it is then updated with the latest data base, then run a quick scan. If it asks to remove or delete anything it finds tell it to do so, It should also open the log as a notepad page, please copy and paste that in your next reply. Nev. Starbuck Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 (edited) Also, remove any 'Cookies' from your browser. The link below will explain how to remove them depending on the browser you use: http://www.aboutcookies.org/page-2 Cookies enable web sites to monitor their users' web surfing habits and profile them for marketing purposes (for example, to find out which products or services they are interested in and send them targeted advertisements). Let us know how things go, we can always run other scans if need be. Edited June 13, 2013 by Starbuck Quote Member of:UNITE
12tom Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 Thank you both for your replies, I already have, and had, Malwarebytes and Avast and Microsoft security in operation. I have run the scan and nothing to report. How to cut and paste and post on here is beyond me, i'm afraid. I've done my best at clearing cookies and some other items. However, whats on the advice pages for "Deleting Cookies" etc. and what's on my PC are slightly different eg. locating google chrome "tools" is a mystery, i cannot locate it. Quote
Starbuck Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 and Avast and Microsoft security in operation. Please explain.... Do you have Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials installed? or are you talking about Avast and Windows Defender? Quote Member of:UNITE

12tom Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Thank you both for your replies. I apologise for the delay in returning. Installed: I have Avast, and the Microsoft security that comes with windows 7 - i also have Malwarebytes installed. AAMOF: since first contacting this forum i've had no more odd happenings - which still doesn't explain the earlier intrusions. Quote
KenB Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I have Avast, and the Microsoft security If by "Microsoft Security you mean MS Essentials then you need to remove Avast if you have 2 AVs on your system Two AVs will conflict. Starbuck Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Hi 12tom I think it's important for us to get the correct information: Download Security Check from here or here. Save it to your Desktop. Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please copy and paste the contents of that document in your next reply. Thanks Quote Member of:UNITE
