r0adrunner Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Yesterday I received an error message on my laptop - which I bought new about 8 months ago - saying "Operating System not found." After switching it off it re-started normally. I ran a full Malwarebytes scan which found 6 infected files and removed them. It produced the log below. Later today I will run a full MS Security Essentials scan. I wondered whether anyone knew what might be wrong. Thank you. Can be cause by the hard drive not being seated properly in the laptop. If you know how, remove the hard drive, and give the contacts a clean with a soft (non nylon) brush. Re-seat and see how it goes. KenB Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Hi I don't think the "Operating System not Found" error is linked with the MBAM report. In fact I don't think the error report shows up anything too serious - obviously one of our security experts would need to confirm this. As Vr5Fx suggests - this is linked ( usually ) to the hard drive. As this machine is only 8 months old you should still be covered by the warranty. You need to confirm that - under the terms of the agreement - you are not invalidating the warranty by removing the hard drive. Give the sellers a ring. r0adrunner Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Thank you for the advice. I managed to run a full MS Security Essentials scan which found no threats. Since it is working fine now, do you still think it is worth pursuing it with the retailer (Amazon) or manufacturer (Sony)? Cheers. Quote
KenB Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Since it is working fine now, do you still think it is worth pursuing it with the retailer You could report to them that you got the error "Operating System not Found" and after a few re-boots it started up properly. Don't say that you are happy with it now - or that the system is running OK now. State that you have been told that it "could" be hard drive related and that "it may re-occur". Make sure they acknowledge your written communication. This way, if it happens again towards the end of your warranty or shortly afterwards, you have the initial problem recorded within the warranty period.
