Do I need a separate Graphics card to run dual monitors (Windows XP pro) I have a DVI splitter but all I get is the same on both monitors

Yes - this is what you will get.

Basically you are taking the same signal and dividing it to two locations.

Like Ken already said.... this is all you will get from using a splitter.

 

If you want to run 2 monitors that can be used for different programs, like this:

you will need a graphics card something like this:

A graphics card with 2 or 3 outputs. (DVI & HDMI & VGA)

 

Ken has more knowledge than i do in this area, but i'm sure that even with 3 outputs you can only run 2 different monitors.

If you connect all 3, then one of the monitors will be reproduced.

what model is your current graphics card,

and what motherboard do you use.

some motherboards can run dual display using the on-board VGA/DVI/HDMI and the same with an additional graphics card.

Splitters are a waste of time.

 

The first thing you do when adding two monitors with a card that can take two monitors is update the graphic card software and hardware driver this usally kicks in the second monitor.Check within windows that you set up priority monitor and within the graphics card software.
