Hi

I use the above printer/scanner/copier.

I have just printed off an outgoing email. The text seems to be quite large and very bold and I'm worried about amount of ink that is used and this is not how it used to print off.

I think something has changed because recently due a virus my hard drive was replaced and various other things fiddled around with to get back to normal. However when I clicked on 'print' a window appeared showing options, 'add printer' 'office documents' and my own printer icon which is highlighted so obvoiusly set to use this option.

So when I click print on the OE interface I now am directed to this window from where I have to give the command to print

This is what has changed because in the past when I clicked 'print' a different window appeared and I wonder if some further settings need changing although I can't find how.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks Ray

Hi Ray, once you replaced the hard drive, did you re-install the printer and drivers from the disk, the printer should have come with one.

If not, disconnect the USB connection, then put the disk into the disk drive, it will then install the drivers and printer, at some point you will be prompted to connect the printer back to the USB port. With HP printers they must be installed that way round, if the printer is already connected, the disk may not install everything correctly.

You may have to disconnect the USB, and then uninstall the printer and driver software first to get a correct install.

Thanks for quick reply Nev.

I have since printed off from other sources other than sent/recieved emails and all is OK so the heavy print of the email copies remains a mystery.

As the other printing is OK I presume there is not a printer installation issue?

Thanks for your help

Just may be a script type of error within outlook express, an area I don't know much about as I never used it, preferring something else.

However a work round providing you have a word processor, is to copy and paste the content of the e mail into a word document, any bolding of characters or script, you should be able to remove and return to ordinary script within the document, then print that.

Hi Ray.

'add printer' 'office documents'

By any chance do you have Microsoft Office installed? This might be an Office issue and not a printer issue. When Windows was installed on your new drive Office or a trial version Of Microsoft Office may have been installed at the same time.

Look at Printers and Faxes in the Control Panel. Is there a Microsoft Office Document Image Writer listed?

Ray I'm in unfamiliar territory here so please make a manual restore point in System Restore before doing anything else.

Microsoft Office Document Image Writer is part of Microsoft Office. As such you may want it at some time. There does seem to be a way of uninstalling it but I only found instructions for installing and updating. The instructions should get you close to the uninstall though.

Close all Office programs including email clients like Outlook and Outlook Express before doing the following.

Try this first. Go back to Printers and Faxes. Make sure your printer is set as the default. Try it now.

If that doesn't work go back and right click Microsoft Office Document Image Writer and select remove or uninstall. Try it now.

My last guess is below.

Steps 1-6 might get you to where you can uninstall it. I don't have Microsoft Office so proceed at your own risk. These are not my instructions.

Instructions for installing and updating.

1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office application running, the driver will not be installed properly.

2. Go to the "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".

3. Click on"Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".

4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".

5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced customization of applications." and click "Next".

6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of "Office Tools"

7. Locate "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", click the icon and select "Not Available".

8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.

9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you were before.

10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging", click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".

11. Click on "Update".

Thanks Randy

The printer is now OK so I'll leave well alone!

However I have copied and pasted your advice into my docs folder to use if needed in future.

Thanks again

If it's not broke don't fix it. :)

Glad everything is to your satisfaction Ray. I'll mark this as solved.
