i got my son a new laptop recently so i decided to use his old desktop as a lounge media pc. i connected it and updated all my usuals, avg, windows, super anti, malwarebytes, etc. i then connected it to my music which is on a portable hard drive and a new sonos system that i got recently. all worked lovely. i then tried to connect this pc and two laptops to my home network using home group. i then downloaded firefox as my son was using chrome and i'm used to firefox. as part of mozilla firefox i always use speed dial as my home page and as i was configuring this the pc lost broadband connectivity. it remains connected to the router ok. i changed ethernet cables, switched sockets and restarted the router just in case. all my other devices connect without any trouble. smart tv, wireless printer, homeplug network device, and 4 laptops. it still refuses to connect to the internet using firefox or ie.

the machine is a packard bell, 500gb hdd, 4gb ram, dual core intel, windows 7.

when i try to connect using either browser i get a message stating the proxy server is refusing connections. i wonder is there maybe a problem with the firewall. i say this as when i was connecting the sonos system, i got a message that sonos needs to change something or other with the firewall - although it all worked well enough for a few hours after installation.
