I run a pc with windows xp. an amd athlon64 3800+ processor. graphics card failed. replaced with msi n210-d512d2 but wouldn't work as that is a 64bit card. my system information does not say what bit it is so led to believe that if it doesn't say it's 32bit. I put in a evga GeForce 8400 gs 32bit card but the system does not get past a black screen with the egg timer frozen. the only spare card I have is the msi one. both of these are new but will not work. reading up on the evga card I am informed that it is deffo a 32bit but the box states "true 64bit floating point" What is the card? 32bit or 64bit and what should I be looking at to buy? I'm not a gamer, just use the PC for internet stuff, emails and facebook, etc contact with family. at present I do not have any graphics card so I cannot log on, even in safe mode. How do I fix this??

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Could you post the make and model of your mainboard for me please as this will give me a clue on what card your computer can run.Or what make and model is it?

When you added the different GPU,s did you get any beep error codes on start up after the start up beep?

Hi and welcome to ExTS

Please answer J-B's question re "Beeps".

===============

What is the card? 32bit or 64bit

It doesn't matter as far as compatibility goes.

Let me explain.

The Video Card has its own RAM and its own processor. The 32 bit / 64 bit associated with the card itself is not related to the Operating System and does not need to comply.

In other words - a Video Card that says "64 bit" will work on a 32 bit system as the "64 bit" on the card is simply a measure of how fast the data can be transferred between the card RAM and the graphics processor.

Back to your problem ...

The Video Cards that you have - providing that they fit in the slot ......should work.

Do you have on-board video?

If so - take whichever card is in the slot out and connect the monitor to the on-board connection.

Switch on.

Do you get anything on screen now ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
