dugg88 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Hi everyone... hope u all can help...my advent 5311 laptop m/board was broke at the dc jack point.. so I got the exact same mother board replacement from e-bay and proceeded to swap the parts over from one board to the other..eg cpu....wireless card, memory, heatsink and fan, hard drive etc.Anyway ,after rebuilding I plugged the power cable in and was happy to see the green charging light...but when I powered up the laptop all I got was the power light, the charging light and one flash from the HD light then it went off... there were no sounds and the screen was black with a very faint glimpse of the Advent logo scrolling...anyone help me please.... ty in advance..Dugg88 Quote
KenB Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Hi Dugg88 there were no sounds and the screen was black with a very faint glimpse of the Advent logo scrolling If you look very closely at the screen can you see any very feint graphics in the background ? If so this could be the inverter or back-light. Was the m/board new or used? It could be that you have been sold a defective board. dugg88 Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 Hi Ken.... no feint graphics or anything like that m8... m/board was bought as used on e-bay but was advertised as been tested and fully working... but then again my first instincts were to suspect a duff m/board too...thx 4 reply tho Ken....dugg88 Quote
KenB Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 It does sound like a dud ! Contact the seller and ask for your money back. eBay have a strict code of conduct - so you should be OK. The seller saying that it has been tasted and working is no guarantee that it actually is. The fact that it "was working last time I used it" is no guide to a working m/board. Send it back - good luck :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Plastic Nev Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Hi, from what you say regarding the old motherboard, and providing the board is still OK and not damaged elsewhere, there is a good chance the broken DC power jack can be replaced, therefore rescuing the system that way. If you are confident in doing a soldering repair, and that is entirely up to you to risk doing the job yourself, if not I recommend taking it to a competent repair technician. However have a look here at this laptop repair specialists site :- http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/06/dc-power-jack-repair-guide/ Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Plastic Nev Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Thanks for the feedback, I did say replacing the power jack was easy and a tenner is a good price for that job, some places might have charged a lot more.
