Hi I hope you can help me? I was with TalkTalk (my last phone bill was £33.45. I wandered into a Carphone Wearhouse shop looking to upgrade my mobile phone, and we got talking about Sky broadband. he signed me up to Sky Unlimited talk anytime (is that the right name for this package?)

 

Apparently I can use the internet 24/7, and and the landline (not lieterally as ear would fall off!) for £24.50 a month (or did he say year?) and then £29.50 when the offer ends.

 

They are going to send me a modem and my live date is 20th August. I have had a letter from TalkTalk stating that I need a MAC code otherwise they said my internet wouldn't work.

 

I am a bit worried about rigning them because the customer services are not very good and they have idian accents which I cannot understand. My main reason is that they will refuse me this MAC code harraging me to stay with them. :confused:

 

Can you please advise me what I should do please? I thought Sky would be sorting this out. http://static.moneysavingexpert.com/images/forum_smilies/yabb/undecided.gif

You may find that T-T offer you a good deal for your next contract .......... which may be worth considering.

 

Take note - if you are still within your contract it will be expensive to leave.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

I think I will ring up for that MAC code anyway, it's just that the customer services at TalkTalk are terrible and one even put the phone down on me. That's not very professional is it?

I would be writing to them with a real letter asking for that MAC code, if it is on paper and written, they cannot refuse to supply that code, though as Ken said, if your original contract is still in date, they will charge for breaking it.

I think T-T suggest 2 weeks notice ( I may be wrong )

If you are intending changing on 20th Aug you may not be giving them enough time.

You may need to get back onto Sky and have the date moved.

 

Also - if you have any problems with T-T contact Sky - they will be only too pleased to help :)

Thanks for your reply. I rang TalkTalk mid morning to try and get the MAC code and got no where! The bloke (Indian) kept rattling on about how shocked he was that I wanted to leave then proceeded to tell me about how another customer left and came back etc etc.

 

 

Also asked why I wanted to leave (because your a !"£$% company :mad:) No I really said because where I live doesn't support them.

 

 

Then he started banging on about this customer and I said (politely) that's very fine but can you give me the MAC code now please? I still got no where and he had the cheek to say I sounded like I was in a hurry! So I politely ended the call and I now have to get my Support worker involved, who is making noises about reporting the incident to Offcome.

 

 

I have had words with Sky who say TalkTalk are well known for this tactic, and I don't need the MAC code. But I will have a final attempt tomorrow about getting it just in case.

 

If I have to pay £30 for the privilege to get them out of my hair, then so be it. I will never darken TalkTalks ugly doorstep ever again but that don't mean I will ever 'forget'.

Indian Call Centres are there to get your money, they are not there to help you.

I too have had a similar experience with Indian call centres, they treat you like a mug and keep you holding on the premium telephone line while your telephone bill sky rockets.

 

My original ISP got taken over by Pipex and they used an Indian call centre to field their help calls. The first thing I found out was that whenever I called this "centre" they would insist on asking the same questions over and over again, you would think that they would have my computer cleaning habits in their records but, and they admitted this, they had to ask these same repeated questions every time you phoned with a problem.

 

I reckon that this "repeated questioning" policy is there to make the call centres money, I believe the cost of the telephone calls are split between BT, Pipex and the call centre. Therefore, I am not surprised when they tried to keep you on the phone, talking nonsense, for as long as possible because that is the same thing they did to me when I told them that I was leaving their ISP.

 

However, the most important thing to remember is that no company can force you to remain their customer against your will, you have the legal right in this country to spend your money where you want to and no one can tell or force you to do anything different, even if you have to break their contract and pay a fee.

 

Finally, you do not need a MAC address to change your ISP, a MAC address makes things easier for the ISPs but they are not essential. I myself have changed broadband providers three times and I have never needed a MAC address to facilitate any of the changes.

Thanks for your reply I have sorted it out, apparently TalkTalk are being sued and are also being investigated by offcom after the death of a boy after they hindered the emergency services.

 

Have been told by Sky that my internet will be a bit slow for 10 days whilst they check my broadband speed. Any Sky customers out there that have had this please?
