Harryuk Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Hi guys, Im at my wits end at the moment. Im very close to taking it into a repair shop but it's an absolute last resort as Im low on funds. Ill make the problem(s) as simple as I can, straight to the point as it were. Firstly: During the hot weather (no idea if the heat is relevant or not) my PC all of a sudden wouldn't turn on. It simple went into an endless cycle of restarting itself. (got just past the Windows logo screen, had a brief flash of a blue screen and restarted) I did a bit a research into the problem; one of the solutions was to try a Format of the hard drive. Second: So, I proceeded to do the Format from a dvd disk. (done many times before with no problems) It gets various ways through the Format and comes up with an error and says the Format was unsuccessful. (without doing it again I cant remember the exact error message but it was something about the hard disk corruption of fault) Could these two problems be connected? If so is there anything I can do to fix it? Any help very much appreciated!! (mu knowledge of this kind of thing is limited, but Im by no means a pc novice) Quote
KenB Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi Harry and welcome to ExTS It sounds as if your hard drive is on its way out - if it hasn't left already :) If you can take the drive out and connect it to another machine ( via external enclosure / HDD to USB adapter / cable direct to motherboard ) we can run a test on it to see if it is OK or not. Is this possible ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
ukbobboy Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 PC Continuous Restart Hi Harry UK Believe it or not, about a week after I assembled this PC I am now using I ran into the same problem, my WinXP Pro O/S started to go into constant restart and reboot loops, and I had absolutely no idea what was causing it. However, after about between 6 - 9 reboot loops, WinXP showed an error message and said it was going to rebuild it's kernel, after the final reboot (and rebuild) my PC and WinXP has been very stable ever since and has only crashed about 4 or 5 times in the last 3 or so years. Now, KenB could be right and your HD is on the way out but it would not hurt to try a utility that could force WinXP to recreate it's kernel (if one exists). Hope this helps UK Bob Quote
