[solved] i-tunes error 42404

Hi, does anyone know how to rectify this error code on i-tunes? It arose when latest Apple software update was run.

My i-pod is now blank as after syncing, it will not let me disconnect.

I have tried the Apple community but no one has replied after three days.

Sorry, should have said, I have tried to repair itunes and have re-installed it twice, but it still says component missing (-42404).
