AuraTodd Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Every time I type out the Google address in the search bar the https appears with a red line through it, and a cross on the padlock sign. What does this mean? I hope it's not serious, thanks. Quote
RandyL Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 You are using Chrome I assume. I don't use it but a quick search suggests that you should first make sure your date and time are correct. Next right click the X and see if it provides more details. You said search bar but did you actually mean the address bar? Quote We are all members helping other members. AuraTodd Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Yes sorry I meant the address bar, i am not very computer minded so jargon is forign language to me. :) Everytime I run Malwarebytes it always finds something so i have to get rid of it. Also an annoying programme called my Pc back up keeps trying to load. I also get a lot of pup's in Malwarebyte, what does ths mean please? Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted September 1, 2013 ExTS Admin Posted September 1, 2013 Hi AuraTodd I also get a lot of pup's in Malwarebyte, what does ths mean please? Quite simply, PuP = Potentially Unwanted Program. These are normally programs that get installed along with a legit program. There is usually an option (sometimes not very clear) to not install the extras, but these get overlooked if you don't read the install instructions properly. Some people may actually want these programs ( not sure why though) so that's why they're called Potentially Unwanted. If you get plagued with them, there's a simple answer......... Just click on the hyperlink in blue to download the program. Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop. Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts. Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator". The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open. Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. This program will remove most PuP's and will try to reset any settings that they may have altered. Quote Member of:UNITE
AuraTodd Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 OK will do that. I also notice the fan in my tower makes a loud noise before settling down. What does this mean please? Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) Hi, while we wait for your next reply and the log that Starbuck asked for. The noisy fan, it can just be in need of a clean as dust will stick to the blades and unbalance it, or it can be the bearings are wearing out and may need a replacement fan, though I have heard of a noise being caused by a wire having been displaced and just rubbing on the fan blade as it spins. an inspection of the fan with the cover removed may tell you more, check for dust around it and clean out if any found first.
