joddle Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I have several PCs dotted about the house - most run XP but one runs vista. So far I have been able to use a single workgroup for all the machines. Recently I got a W7 machine and although it seems to have joined the workgroup OK - i.e. I can see it in the list of workgroup machines from the other PCs, if I try and access it or the shared folder on it, I get asked to supply a username and password whcih does not happen on any of the other machines. How do I get it to work like the other pcs ie simply connect when required?? Quote
joddle Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 Add to above - I can see all my opther PCs from the W7 machine and can access them - its just the other way round does not work. I have created a shared folder on the W7 machine and granted access to "everyone" but still no joy. Quote
RandyL Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Check a couple of things. 1. Make sure the workgroup name is the same on all computers. 2. In the shared folder under sharing make sure there is an entry "Everyone". 3. In the shared folder under Security look in Group or user names: and make sure there is an entry "Everyone". Number 3 has caused the one way issue for me with a XP and 7 network setup but I can't remember if I got asked for a name and password or if I just couldn't access it. Worth a try.
