KenB Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Hi Matt - I have been away for a few days .....sorry for the late reply :) At the moment I'm using Open Office to view my excel and word docs Is this on the same system or another pc ? If it is the same system then a Repair Install will not fix Office problems - you need the Office installation disk. mattd7uk Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 It's the same PC. So, what disk do I need to buy? If I buy an MS XP Home Edition, like the original, of the internet you're saying this won't work? Quote
KenB Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 If I buy an MS XP Home Edition, like the original, of the internet you're saying this won't work? I don't think so. You can open Office Excel files with OpenOffice ......... but not with Microsoft Office. If this is correct then I think a repair of MS Office is needed. You posted this earlier: when I click to open, a message about needing to install CD etc comes up. Is there any chance of a screen shot of this please ? I suspect the message relates to the Office disk and not the XP install disk. If you have access to the MS Office disk you can do a repair with this. Armageddon Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hi 'MAINSPC.MSP' This refers to the office service pack , So am thinking along same lines as Ken that a office repair/re-install is needed , If needed Microsoft have a Fix-it tool for totally un-installing office . Hope this helps Quote Google is your friend We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. mattd7uk Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Ok, I wanted to do a screenshot of the box that appears to show you but for some reason I am unable to do it so this is the best I can do. If you click on the link below, after 10 seconds of the video they'll appear a very similar box to the one that appears when I try to open a MS Word, Excel doc. Only difference, instead of the word 'Sonic My DVD' it says Windows Installer and after installation package it says 'MAINSP3.MSP'. I don't have any of the MS Office disks. Can I buy it on Ebay? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y16XhNqALng Quote
KenB Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 'MAINSP3.MSP'. I don't have any of the MS Office disks The MAINSP3.MSP is definitely referring to Office and not XP.----------------------- Office is an expensive piece of kit. If you can get hold of a disk ( same spec ) then you can try a repair. If you re-install you will need the key. Alternatively you can use Open Office. Equally as good - and free. If you want compatibility with other office installations then you just need to remember to save any document an a MS Office compatible format.
