bribizz Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Hi Everybody, This is my first ever entry to a forum so please treat me gently. I am a retired Brit living in Thailand. I have an Acer Aspire 4750 running (when it is running) Window 7 Home Premium. I dropped the machine accidentally onto the table last week and since then when starting up Windows Boot Manger appears giving me: Status Oxc000000f Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. I do not have a recovery disc but have created a recovery usb drive from a second computer running Windows 7: however, I cannot get past the Boot Manager Status page even restarting and tapping f10 ( an idea I found here). It is likely that the drop has disrupted something but please can you advise me how best to proceed from here? Thanks Brian Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Brian. I am afraid this sounds a lot like the drop has damaged the hard drive. It is worth a look at whether it has just been jolted out of its connection though first. Remove the charger power, and also remove the battery first. Underneath there should be a plate held on with two or three screws, this plate covers where the hard drive is, remove the plate and check that the hard drive is properly seated in the edgeways socket. Hopefully that is all it is, however if not, then you may need a new hard drive. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. KenB Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Hi Brian and welcome from me too. Whilst you are looking at the Hard Drive - also take a look at the RAM. Take these out and re-seat them. It could be that the Actuator Arm has jammed due to the drop. If none of the above suggestions work out try taking the hard drive out again and slapping it down on a hard surface. The jolt may just release the Actuator Arm if this HAS been stuck. Obviously this is NOT how we would normally treat a hard drive and it is your choice if you try this or not :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
