Porge Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Hi all, my Acer laptop has started to be very slow, particularly with booting up the laptop and loading the internet. I have Windows 7, IE9 and an igoogle homepage. My internet speed should be !00mb with Virgin but recently has dropped down to 42mb regularly. I did some investigation online and was offered a free scan of my system by a company called PC Speedup. Stupid me, as after the scan they wanted to charge me £19 to find out how to fix all the programs that are running in the background or at start up etc.I already regularly use Malware and CC Cleaner. I would be grateful for your help. Thanks Quote
Starbuck Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Hi Porge I did some investigation online and was offered a free scan of my system by a company called PC Speedup. Stupid me, as after the scan they wanted to charge me £19 to find out how to fix all the programs that are running in the background or at start up etc Let's see if we can right this wrong.... shouldn't be too difficult. Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop. Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts. Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator". The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open. Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.Close all open programs and internet browsers. Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. Click on the Scan button. AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer. After the scan has finished... Click on the Clean button. Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts. Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process. After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[s0].txt) will open automatically. Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply. A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder. These tools will take of a lot of rubbish and will help to reset some settings. We'll get rid of this rubbish and then take it from there. In your next reply, please submit: JRT.txt and AdwCleaner report Thanks. Quote Member of:UNITE
