AmbiRob Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Hi I am new to the forum and have very limited experince with computers and systems I am having trouble with the hard drive, the issue is each time I log in I get the black screen with information about the NFTS CHCDSK and it also informs that it will be checking the hard drive. After the process is completed it then repeats the same line of information which is ''Correcting error in index $I30 for file 62099''? I have tried to use the windows help option, but I clearly dont have a clue. I did try to do a safe start but that had froze also. My way around this issue is to cancel the disk checking, but that means that I cannot complete updates etc. I also read that I should use the program disk, to start up and repair? Again not sure what that means and I dont have the orginial disk, box or paperwork anyway. Any help would be greatly appericated Rob. Quote
KenB Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Hi and welcome to ExTS My way around this issue is to cancel the disk checking, but that means that I cannot complete updates etc You can still boot up ..... but not in Safe Mode ? Is this correct ? I suspect that your hard drive is on its way out. 1. If you can boot up I suggest that you back up anything at all that you do not wish to lose. 2. Is this a laptop or desktop ? 3, I am going to suggest taking the drive out and attaching it to another computer to test. This will involve buying an external enclosure ( under £10 ) if a laptop. Are you happy to do this ? 4. If the hard drive is diagnosed faulty I have a link to a Windows 7 ISO - you would need to burn it to a DVD Are you happy to do this if we need to go down this route ? AmbiRob Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Hi ken, thank you for your response, I am able to log on to the laptop after cancelling the disk check and don't have any Issues or prompts when I have logged in. I have the windows 7 service pack to download which is 1,015.20 MB ( is that loads?) and each time I try to update it keeps failing with error code 80070012? Do you reckon my hard drive is on it way out? My c drive has used 79.8GB and free is 206GB Cheers Rob Quote
KenB Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I am able to log on to the laptop after cancelling the disk check and don't have any Issues or prompts when I have logged in. This is good news. I have the windows 7 service pack to download which is 1,015.20 MB ( is that loads?) This is about 1GB - you have 206GB free ..... so no, it is not "loads" :) error code 80070012 This could be related to a driver update problem. Correcting error in index $I30 for file 62099 This is what led me to believe that your hard drive is suspect. after cancelling the disk check Let the disk check run through. ( this could take some time ) There are probably things that need to be fixed and the disk check should attempt to do this. Let me know how this goes and we will take it from there. AmbiRob Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Hi ken, sorry I'm only getting back to you now, I have tried to let the system run for about 25 mins, ( went for food) on return the computer must have shut its self down and not restarted,. Although I did let the computer run and watched the process it's exactly the same no change, any other suggestions? Rob Quote
KenB Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Hi Rob You said earlier that if you cancelled the diskcheck that you could use the laptop normally. If this is still the case: Boot up and download Sea Tools for Windows from here - click here Install and run it. There is some instructional data on the site if you need it. Let me know the results - especially if any aspects of the drive is failed. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
